Gungho Cowboy

Big name video game publishers are not always big on secrets, as they make pronouncements of upcoming games they will be developing years ahead during major game developers or electronics show events. But Activision shows it can also play the secrecy game as they announced the release of the "Call of Duty: Strike Team" made for mobile devices, and for now it's focused on iOS devices such as the iPad and iPhone.

When everybody's anticipating the "Call of Duty: Ghosts", Activision's surprise is also a two for the price of 1 with COD: Strike Team as it is an FPS and RTS game at the same time. This means you can play the game by switching effortlessly between modes as you control your game with just the touch screen of your mobile device or just stay with the game mode if you don't prefer the other one.

Just like the COD: Black Ops 2, COD: Strike Team is set in the year 2020 with the U.S battling an unknown enemy. The usual fanfare such as cinematic sequences in the player campaigns seen in the console and PC versions are still there. The campaign will take you to different parts of the world, so you can be shooting bad guys in China or another location.

As to how Activision pulled this surprise, you better read the Kotaku story which they got in touch with the game developers from the Blast Furnace Studio, which is the mobile game app group of Activision. This group is also comprised of experienced developers from Rockstar Games, which is famous for the GTA and Max Payne video games.

With the RTS mode, this is the first time that you get to control a team from a third person perspective in Call of Duty.  There are different challenges, and there is a leaderboard where you can throw the gauntlet to your mates, challenging them to beat your score. There is the survival mode where you get to shoot as many bad guys as you can until they take you out.

Now you get to have the COD experience whilst on the road. Just make sure your elbows are close to you when you start playing the game when commuting towards work. You might just annoy people sitting beside you.

Call of Duty: Strike Team is only compatible with and optimized for iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad mini, iPad 2, iPad (3rd generation), iPad (4th generation), and iPod touch (5th generation). You can now purchase and download the game for US$6.99 or for £4.99 if you're in the UK.
