Airsofters In The UK Hold A Successful Typhoon Haiyan Charity Event

Riversphynxz

In what was a mixture of fun, camaraderie, solidarity, and charity, Filipino and British Airsofters banded together to raise funds for rehabilitation of the areas hit by Typhoon Haiyan. On the 8th of November, Typhoon Haiyan (Philippine Code Name: Yolanda) struck the central part of the Philippines. With destructive winds reaching up to 200mph, torrential rain and storm surge, it took the lives of more than 6,000 Filipinos. Tens of thousands were left still homeless, without food, water and electricity. 5 months later, Filipinos in those areas hit by the typhoon are still slowly recovering from this nightmare and needing more help.

The Filipino Airsoft Community in the United Kingdom started to organise a charity game as early as December 2013. With overwhelming support from the airsoft media such as Popular Airsoft and Airsoft Action Magazine, plus the local airsoft retailers, "Operation Helping Hands" was announced. Held last April 6, at MadDog Airsoft in Brampton, Cambridgeshire, over a hundred players joined in this charity event. Welcomed warmly by the airsoft site with its hospitable staff, everybody enjoyed the games and at the end of the day a raffle draw and auction were held.

This charity event generated £1,530 from raffle tickets, an auction of a RWA MG34 AEG and a mini-game hosted by Airsoft Social.

On behalf of all Filipinos who survived and recovering from the destructive power of typhoon Haiyan, we would like to express our thanks to our sponsors namely RedWolf Airsoft UK, JD Airsoft, Alliance in Motion Global, Airsoft Action Magazine, and MadDog Airsoft. Without them, this charity game won't have been successful.

All proceeds will be forwarded to ABS-CBN Foundation Sagip Kapamilya, the foundation of the biggest broadcasting network in the Philippines and at the forefront of the rehabilitation efforts in the stricken areas.

Again, many thanks to all who help and made this charity game successful. There are more photos of Operation Helping Hands at my Facebook Page.
