Even More Double Fun: Silver Shadow Double Barrel AR-15

OptimusPrime

We all agree that the Arsenal Firearms AF20110-A1 Double Barrel 1911 Pistol is one of the coolest guns that came out this year, but the cool guns appearance is not over yet as there's one to be unveiled next month at the Eurosatory 2012 in Paris. The Silver Shadow Double Barrel AR-15 would surely be one of those firearms that will be talked about this year.

We have heard rumours about this rifle, and we hold off writing about this until more concrete information and images come out. However, with firearms news, blogs, and forums coming out with hazy images, we cannot let our excitement bottled up anymore. One thing that we can say about the Israelis, they surely know how to keep information well as not much is still known about this rifle.

One thing that we are sure about is that this new rifle will be a part of the Gilboa Rifle Family of Silver Shadow, which is a company that is founded by a former senior of the IDF and Israeli Police. It is one of the companies that is allowed by the Israel MOD to export firearms.

Why part of the Gilboa you say? Well, a simple answer is this: Silver Shadow put any assault rifle that they develop in the Gilboa family whilst sniper rifles are in the TIMNA which so far has one available. The Gilboa Weapons Series are said to be one of the toughest ARs that can be used under the harshets conditions and still perform well and one of the preferred weapons by operators. It is also compatible with other NATO and US mounts and equipment so you can mount optics and accessories made for other AR platforms on the series.

So why develop a double-barrel AR-15? Apart from the cool factor, a double barreled AR-15 can provide instant firepower which can overpower other assault rifles. If it has  a good and manageable cyclic rate, then it can be handled well and can be used as another Infantry Assault Rifle (IAR), lessening the need for a dedicated light machine gun to support an infantry squad.

Everyone's really curious about this latest AR-15, and since we cannot write about it any further, we'll just have to wait for official announcements come 11-15 June in Paris. We also wrote about this to give airsoft manufacturers a heads-up on this and better rush to the drawing board to find out if this can be done for airsoft, especially an AEG version. This will be a really tough challenge but we can assure any manufacturer that we'll be one of the first in line for this.
