Just What We Need: Tips On Making Good Airsoft Videos

Gungho Cowboy

We're glad to have this weekend behind us, since it's one of the slowest we had, airsoft-reporting-wise as we have not got even some cool stories of airsoft events, ground breaking airsoft technology, or that latest gear or gadget that we can use in airsoft. So for me,  I settled on having a Eurovision Party to watch and see the "Bearded Lady" from Austria grab the title for her country this year. It was also a very political Euovision 2014 with the good looking Russian finalists getting booed, and the win of a gay singer looks like a slap on Putin for Russia's anti-gay laws.

So, what's up with airsoft to start the week? We talk about videos.

It's easy to take videos nowadays. With smartphones  already coming with High Definition Cameras, Action Cameras now getting cheaper and stuff with a lot of features, DSLRs able to take amazing footages that were previously the realm of dedicated video cameras, anyone is a director, cinematographer, or worse a voyeur. In airsoft, we see improvements in the quality of airsoft videos over the years. Thanks to YouTube and other social media sites that allow for videos, airsoft's given a platform to be promoted to a wider and global audience.

With video cameras at easy reach of the masses, it's more of a quantity rather than quality. Even the good airsoft video channels online are a handful or perhaps the good videos get buried by the awful ones.  Good thing that we have the "subscribe" button so that we can keep track of a good airsoft video channel rather than forget about after watching a video or two.

AirsoftWarfareHD, also a YouTube airsoft channel, realising that there are no good howtos in airsoft for video making, made a quick 5-minute video to give some pointers on making airsoft videos. It's not a technical howto of the fine details of videography/cinematography but it's how to approach your airsoft video project. It always starts with having a plan on what type of airsoft video you are going to make, whether it's an airsoft review, an in-game footage, or even a fictional story using airsoft guns as props. It's not just always "have camera, will shoot", and will require using that big organ of yours called the Brain.

As to equipment, whilst the best and latest will set you back big bucks, nowadays it's possible to make a good video (and even a full length airsoft movie) on a shoestring budget. You can make do with the existing action cameras, small HD camcorders, and even the smartphone cameras to use. For rigs, use the picatinny rail mounts and there are many DIY tips to create your own rig to get that impossible angle shot or be able to have third-party view of the airsoft player.

So, how to make good airsoft videos? Here is AirsoftWarfareHD to give you some quick tips. If you find other videos/tips feel free to share them. Who knows? You might create the next big airsoft video channel.
