"Umarex/VFC H&K HK416 CQB (New Gen) - $449.99

The brainchild of a joint effort between world renowned German arms maker Heckler & Koch and the U.S. Army’s elite Delta Force, the H&K HK416 was designed to replace the aging M4 Carbine. Utilizing an HK G36 style proprietary gas system, the HK416 offers many improvements over the M4’s direct impingement gas system. With a short-stroke piston driving an operating rod to force the bolt carrier to the rear, the HK416’s gas system prevents gases and carbon from entering the weapon’s interior components as well as reduced heat transfer and carbon fouling. These improvements result in more rounds fired between stoppages, reduced operator maintenance and less stress on critical internal components. Currently used by several military and law enforcement units around the world, the H&K HK416 represents the step forward in military small arms.

For 2012 Umarex released this brand new model which replicates the newest variant of the of the HK416. The rifle is still manufactured by Vega Force Company of Taiwan with licensed H&K trademarks through Umarex USA so its quality is what you would expect from one of the leading manufactures in the airsoft industry. The external components of this amazing looking rifle are constructed from a mix of aluminum, zinc and steel so it is rock solid yet well balanced and easy to maneuver. This new 2012 model also has improved ergonomics to its grip and stock so when you bring this rifle up to your shoulder it feels like it was made for you.

The HK416 does not require an external battery box since the battery is housed inside of the rifles crane stock which can accept either an 8.4v or 9.6v nun-chuck style battery pack. To install that battery you simply have to rotate the rubber butt pad 1/4 turn counterclockwise and it pulls right off. Now, we have used a lot of crane stocks over the years and we have to say this is probably the best we have seen to date. It is very robust in construction and the twist lock butt pad is an extremely strong design as well as being very easy to operate.

Internally the rifle is equipped with a full metal Version 2 gearbox fitted with steel gears running on 8mm bearing bushings. You will also find a steel spring guide with bearings and a ported aluminum piston head. This all produces 350 fps at the muzzle and will rip out shots at 1100 rounds per minute while using only an 9.6v. After you have squeezed off a few bursts with this rifle you can definitely tell it was designed for fast paced close quarter engagements. However, if you do have to go long range, we found this rifle to be insanely accurate and able to effectively engage a torso sized target out to 50 yards away. The hop-up chamber on this model is different from past VFC models and closely resembles aftermarket upgrade chambers with the adjustment wheel mounted perpendicular to the barrel instead of parallel. This configuration allows you to make very small fine tuning adjustments and is far less likely to shift out of position from vibration.

Overall this is one amazing rifle both in appearance and design. If you have ever wanted an HK416, this is the one you should be looking at.

SRC SR-47 Series - $169.99 (Battery and Charger NOT included)

A welcome edition to our AK line-up, the SR-47 series rifles from SRC replicate the classic AK and offer excellent performance at a very affordable price. Their design is based on the TM AK series so they are fully compatible with TM spec aftermarket AK series parts and spare magazines. The body of this rifle is molded from high impact polymer which feels extremely dense and rugged. Most everything else on the rifle is constructed from metal with the exception of its furniture which is finished with an imitation wood grain for that classic look.

Internally it has a metal V3 gearbox which is equipped with steel gears running on 6mm solid steel bushings for maximum durability. On the firing range we noted that the gearbox runs exceptionally smoothly and the motor produced quite a lot of torque which gave it a really responsive trigger and a solid cyclic rate. In the power department the SR-47 is no slouch either. A .2g BB exits the muzzle at a speedy 370 fps and with its long 455mm inner barrel these rifles shoot very accurately with a tight grouping even on during full auto fire. Overall the build of these rifles is remarkably solid and robust making them an ideal field rifle for your Russian or rebel loadout.

SR-47S

The SR-47S rifle is designed with an underfolding skeleton stock which when folded effectively reduces the rifles length by nearly half so it is well suited for maneuvering through thick jungle like environments. The battery is held in the top of the receiver which is more spacious than traditional folding stock AK rifles to the point that a 8.4v practically disappears. In fact it can easily hold a 12v stick type battery however you should not use over an 9.6v unless upgrades are performed.
