With the trailer of the what is to be first official sneak peek of the movie "Lone Survivor", Operation Red Wings now gets its Hollywood treatment. Based on the book "Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of Seal Team 10" written by the lone survivor of that mission, Marcus Luttrell, this movie stars Mark Wahlberg, taking the role as Luttrell, with Eric Bana, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch,  Alexander Ludwig, and Ben Foster.

"Lone Survivor" is about the story of Operation Red Wings when Navy SEAL Team 10 was sent on a mission to stake out a village and capture or kill Ahmad Shah, the Taliban leader who was allied with Al Qaeda Leader Osama Bin Laden.  The mission took place in Pech District in Kunar Province of Afghanistan in 2005.

The mission was a debacle as the team of Luttrell was ambushed by the Shah and his Taliban fighters. Three of the team members were killed, including Michael Patrick Murphy, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during Operation Red Wings. The chopper sent to rescue the team was shot down with an RPG, killing all 16 people on board. The passengers on that chopper were 8 Navy SEALS and accompanied by the 160th Army Special Operations Aviators and crew.

Luttrell, with serious wounds and multiple fractures, was able to escape capture as he was rescued by local Pashtuns who protected him from the Taliban and brought him to safety.

Many members of the airsoft community are very much aware of Operation Red Wings, with airsoft teams naming themselves after the Operation. With the announcement of the movie, many in the community are anticipating the release with the trailer forwarded and shared many times in social networks.

The movie, which was shot in New Mexico in 2012, is directed by Peter Berg (The Rundown, The Kingdom, Friday, Night Lights, Battleship). Initial limited release is expected in December 2013 with full release in January 2014.
