TrackingPoint + Google Glass: Say Goodbye To CornerShot?

Gungho Cowboy

You have read about the power of the TrackingPoint technology 's called Precision Guided Firearm (PGF) which turns anyone with armed with a TrackingPoint-equipped rifle into a deadly marksman. For those who are not familiar with this technology, it's almost like being a fighter jet pilot --- press the button to select until achieving a lock-on on  target and press fully to launch a missile to go after the target. As for TrackingPoint, it fires the rifle when everything's aligned, just mark the target and the PGF does the rest.

With the Shotview streaming App, the PGF can now be connected to mobile devices, such as mobile phones, and much better, to wearable devices such as Google Glass. Shotview shows on the device the PGF display, allowing the shooter to hide behind walls and corners and still be able to shoot accurately. This means more protection for the shooter and bad news for the person at the receiving end.

With up to a range of 1,200 yards, a sniper would be even more feared when he or she is equipped with a TrackingPoint and a wearable device that is connected to it. Even moving targets would be easier to track and shoot with the PGF technology. Now with the mobile (smartphone or tablet) or wearable device target confirmation can even transmitted to the rest of the team or even to the HQ just using common telecommunications infrastructure, in this case, cell sites.

Will this change how the way shooters will shoot? Not really as the basic fundamentals of marksmanship will remain the same and should be learned about by any serious shooter. TrackingPoint's PGF and Shotview are additional tools to be more effective at shooting and it's best not to depend on these all the time since such devices may just fail and one has to resort to manual means of shooting which will entail using the skills acquired during training.

The Shotview App is available for both iOS (Apple Devices) and Android devices though there is no detail if they are releasing an SDK for software developers to connect it other wearable device such as Recon Jet from Recon Instruments. We expect this to be looked into by Law Enforcement and Military since such tool together with the TrackingPoint rifle will be an indispensable tool for missions.
