Turn that AR-15 into a Support Weapon

Logan

We want a shorter and lighter weapon that can spit out bullets that would make the OPFOR duck and help your squad move on towards the objective. In airsoft, we already use the electric-operated box-magazines to turn our M4s into support weapons. In real life, it's still subject to a big debate, as either having the SAWs in the form of the M249s and other GPMGs or an AR-type machine gun that can deliver the goods while not looking much different from the other guns in the squad.

Valkyrie Armament answers the problem by improving on the AR-10 belt system by providing a conversion kit that will allow an AR-15 ready to take in an M249 belt feeding magazine. The magazine can be placed to feed the AR-15 by pulling the take down pin at the rear of the receiver, pushing the magazine release, place the belt feed, and close the rifle. Just like handling a SAW with a smaller tool.

Valkyrie Armament can provide a fully converted AR-15 or you can get the conversionn kit and it will fit almost any AR rifle as long as there's some modification done to ensure that the belt can get a round into the chamber by an opening on the left side of the receiver. But man! Look at the recoil on the video! It's going to be tough on the shoulder and at the same time maintain a semblance of accurate shooting having it steady with a foregrip. The answer really is to have bipod mounted for a more stable shooting. If you have already developed a shooting stance with your left hand (or the hand you use for the front part), especially holding it quite near the end of the front handguard, you need to change such a habit.

For a real steel AR, there might be a need to lower the rate of fire in order to maintain accuracy. It hasn't been talked about much, but is really an interesting development to give a smaller squad support weapon.

Those airsoft players who cannot wait for a manufacturer to make one for airsoft, some modding needs to be done with the M249 box magazines. You can go cheap by using the A&K M249 box magazine, and modding it to be able to fit the magwell of an airsoft AR rifle. Then you'll need to cut-out on the left side of the receivers a hole between the upper and lower and weilding a piece of metal (or cut off the magwell a thrown away A&K M249) to serve as the port entrance for the beltfeed tray. You can readily purchase the dummy rounds of the beltfeed tray if the A&K M249 doesn't come with one yet.

It would be interesting if someone can make one these fitted on the Tokyo Marui M4 recoil with blowback. That would surely be a great combination to do some rock and roll in the skirmish field.
