Hmmm… we do not know if this is really new "news" regarding Izhmash Concern producing an airsoft AK as there have been the Yunker series of airguns and the Yunker-5 CO2 powered airsoft gun years back (I first learned about this in 2008). Anyway, there might be changes to the design that make it more fitting for skirmishes. There were issues with the old Yunkers as they use Real Steel receivers and were considered to be deacts and can be made to working  condition as real steel firearms again in the U.S.

Thumpy's 3-D House of Airsoft Scoop.it Channel reports to us about the news of Izhmash getting into the airsoft game head-on as he found the news at Ria Novosti, the Russian English language news site. But reading in the news the description of the Yunker-5 as “The air gun is intended for training and sport shooting with 6-mm plastic balls powered by compressed gas in a cylinder” seems to be the old Yunker-5 as already described at their website, which means it's CO2.

We'll see if we can find out more news.  If Izhmash finds airsoft to help in their business issue, then they're more than welcome to join in the airsoft party.

"They needed to do something with the MILLIONS of real AK's that are being replaced/stockpiled...although they will likely be modified so that they can NOT fire or be easily modified into working firearms....as KWA just went through those hassles here in the US with the BATF, with both M4 AND AK-Gbb's coming to market,  it will be interesting to see if this takes off.  SCOOPED over at the SCOOP.IT news site right now...we will be adding details as we get them!
