MadBull PRI Gen III Round Rail

Operator7

Let’s face it, Airsoft has several sides to it, and one of them is about looking cool and having the right gear and the guns with the nicest accessories. It’s undeniable that once you buy a new gun or do an external upgrade to your AEG, the first thing you’ll do is go and flash it to your teammates. It’s like a competition for some people. :)

But if you don’t fuse the cool with the practical and functional aspects you might end up looking dumb.

The best way to impress your friends is to have Airsoft products that mimic or copy real steel stuff, and in terms of gun accessories that fall under this category, MadBull Airsoft is king.

Thanks to their ever growing list of partners that are manufacturers of real steel equipment, they have the ability to produce some of the coolest accessories that could ever be installed on your Airsoft gun. Full markings included.

The PRI Gen III Round Rail is another fine example of this well-defined and successful strategy that attracts so many Airsofters to MadBull’s products. The other reason is the outstanding quality of their products, as I’ve been able to witness this first hand when I reviewed the Spikes Tactical Bar Rail, and that is well present on this rail as you’ll see in this review.

DESIGN, FEATURES AND MATERIALS

PRI or Precision Reflex, Inc. manufacture shooting products such as mounts, rifle scopes, and other shooting accessories.

They’ve been creating and designing these products since the 70s and they’ve been quite successful at it. Their GEN III Round Rail is proof of their ingenuity mainly because of its lightweight design, thanks to its Carbon Fiber construction which dissipates heat very well from high discharging, and thanks to its adjustability. They also have a very popular Delta shaped rail which MadBull also happen to have an Airsoft version!

The Airsoft version from MadBull carries these same aspects to the Airsoft world, either by offering a lightweight Carbon Fiber model, or a more accessible Polymer version which is lightweight as well and quite sturdy, even though it is not as strong as the Carbon Fiber version.

And then there’s the possibility of adjusting the aluminum rail sections to your liking, which can be moved wherever you want them.  In fact included in the package you’ll find four rails: 3x 3 inch rails and one 5.5” rail.

Usually you would place the 5.5 inch rail on top and the 3 inch rails on the bottom and sides. But here’s the beauty of PRI GEN III Round Rail: you can place them wherever you want them, providing you have the mounting holes to hold them underneath.

The design is, as I mentioned earlier, very ingenious. This is even more evident if you, like me are used to running a quad rail system, since you’ll notice that you’re never using up the whole rail space. In fact it’s much more sensible with the setup of the GEN III Round Rail which allows you to attach those most common accessories you use such as a grip or an AFG, a flashlight, front sights, lasers, fake AN-PEQs and many more. Plus it’s much more comfortable to grip than the first which you usually end up buying a rail cover.

Also, the way you setup the rails might even help you to grip your gun better, because you’ll be grabbing a much more anatomical round shape since the rails don’t use up that much space. In fact you can even place the rails so they act as a kind of a guide or a tab stop so you know where to put your hands and adopt the same hand placement every time you grab that gun.

I really like this. Plus, not having so much aluminum lowers the whole weight of the system. The only other parts which are aluminum are the barrel nut, the locking collar and the first section of the handguard where the metal threading’s for the locking collar are.

Since I am using a CQC M4 from Dytac, which I will be reviewing pretty soon here, I went for the 9 inch version. But you can choose between a 7, 9 or 12.5 inch versions.  Say you have a CQC gun and you want to keep you M4 style front sight, all you have to do is buy the 7” version. In my case I prefer the 9 inch version because you have more room for your hands and also it looks nicer this way.

There are also three colors available: Black, OD and Tan, which is cool because you can color match it with your current setup.

INSTALLATION AND BUILD QUALITY

Installation is pretty straight forward, and the only thing I recommend you getting is a Delta Ring wrench. I am currently using the Speed Delta Ring Wrench which is extremely comfortable and very easy to use.

First, you must remove your current handguard and front sight or rail system, and then remove the Delta Ring and the fake gas tube if your gun has one. Slide the locking collar first, insert the barrel nut, align it with the rail’s pins and screw them together. Once this is done, secure them by fastening the locking collar and you’re done.

To install the rails you’ll have to place some small metal plates with holes inside the rail so you can use the included screws to fasten the rails to the PRI GEN III Round Rail.

As for the build quality, as usually expect some high grade quality materials. I am sure that the Carbon Fiber version will take on whatever you’ll throw at it, but I’ll be damned if this polymer version isn’t sturdy and strong as I believe it is. The whole set, once bolted properly has absolutely no play and no noises, being that the rails hold on pretty well to the polymer round structure even when you attach accessories such as grips and others.

CONCLUSION

To sum it all up, this is a very comfortable and easy to use rail, which weights very little giving you a lot of control over your gun and a scalable and adaptable way to set up your attachments by having the freedom to choose which and where to install the included rails.

  • Great looking just like the real one
  • Lightweight
