A-Two Tactical 1961G AOR2

Freon

Getting right to the point, I don’t want to bore you with a history lesson about AOR2 and the 1961G. You have Google for that. What I will tell you about is the company, the piece of gear I got, and what I think of it along with the whole experience in dealing with A-Two to get the said item.

ABOUT A-TWO TACTICAL

A-Two Tactical  Gear is a Taiwanese brand I happened to stumble upon whilst searching for AOR2 or NWU Type III camouflage gear. They produce replica load bearing equipment and uniforms with a US Navy SEAL theme.

You can find them on Facebook if you want to get in touch with them.

ORDERING AND SHIPPING

An important part of what I want to do for my reviews is to detail how an item can be acquired. A-TWO’s main way in dealing with clientele is through their Facebook page and it is through there that I was able to place an order. Being in the customer service industry myself, I know that it is a very important aspect of conducting business. A-Two tactical did not disappoint at all. They were very prompt and helpful with responses and made the overall experience pleasant and very easy for me.

CONSTRUCTION

Overall construction is good and faithful to the authentic item with all the pouches sized correctly and in the proper places. Even in the secret hidden nooks and crannies of the rig. Below are details or specifics about A-Two’s 1961G.

Fabrics

Given that they are producing gear in camouflage patterns that are hard to find and raw materials would be quite pricy and hard to come by, A-TWO tactical print their own fabric for use with their products, which helps them keep their costs competitive with other brands. The colors they use for printing are quite accurate and their AOR2 print went nicely with a set of authentic AOR2 pants I had purchased from UR-Tactical which will be in my other review.

I’m not sure of the kind of nylon fabric they use but it is definitely lighter than 1000D. Comparing both 1961Gs from Flyye and A-TWO. (Flyye only makes them in plain colors) I would probably peg it as an approximation to 550D cordura, but don’t take my word for it.

One thing I have to say about the product is that the mesh backing that comes in contact with the body is the wrong kind of material. It’s purpose there is to mitigate and dissipate body heat. A-Two used a plastic-like mesh that doesn’t help with that purpose and it’s also a bright green, which was a little disappointing.

Stitching

I don’t know much about stitching but the one thing I noticed is that the stitches on the A-TWO are slightly longer than the stitches on the Flyye. I know this means less stitches per unit of measurement and it may have an effect on durability. But as for what that is, I’m not so certain. On most authentic gear I have, the stitches are smaller and tighter.

Furniture

For the buckles and webbing, everything seems color-correct. They don’t use AOR2 webbing but for certain parts like the webbing used to tighten down pouches, they simply used their own printed nylon, which is the same material as the rest of the vest. This creates a very good camouflage consistency. The buckles don’t look like they are made by UTX but do feel quite sturdy nonetheless. The only green webbing on the rig are the straps that go to the back. The rest is rendered color correct and consistent.

SKIRMISHABILITY AND CONCLUSIONS

Having only used this rig a few times, I can’t quite comment on durability. I do run a heavy load due to the 8 rifle and 3 pistol blowback magazine I have along with 3 liters of water in a pack that I attached to the vest. It has put up with my diving for cover once or twice but I’ve never really taken it on a 2 or 3 day military simulation game so I can’t  give a definitive conclusion on that aspect.

I can say that aside from the mesh backing not helping with heat mitigation, this rig is very comfortable and simply fits right. It can hold 2 KJ Works M4 magazines per pouch quite comfortably. These magazines are wider than the regular stanag types so there’s definitely enough room in each pouch. I’ve also stuck a grenade into one of the mag pouches. It fit nicely and was easy to take out when needed.

In conclusion, I am very happy with this product and in my dealings with A-TWO Tactical. I will continue to use it. I do recommend it for those people looking for AOR2 LBE as it is one of the first well made ones I’ve seen thus far.

I plan to get a few more items from A-TWO. They make good items and I would highly recommend them.
