Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Sets You In The Future

OptimusPrime

Treyarch took lead in the development of Call of Duty: Black Ops, bringing the player into the past, where the Cold War was against the Soviet Union. In Black Ops 2, Treyarch takes you into the future, in the year 2025, and if you think the Cold War is over, it's not, as it's now against China. And since it's the future, there are more high tech gadgetry for you to wage warfare with.

We have already gotten hints about what's going to come for the latest Call of Duty title, and as hinted by FPS Russia in which their Drone creation that we wrote about will also appear in the upcoming game. And with the World Wide Reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, those who have speculated about future warfare were right on the money.

Humans will battle computer operated such as robots, drones and what the enemy will throw at it. The weaponry will also be futuristic and maps will be holographic. The weapons will be even more powerful that even hiding behind walls for cover will be useless when some of these are brought to bear.

The connection to the original Black Ops is maintained here as the son of Alex Mason, David Mason, will be the lead character here but there will be flashbacks to the past, more specifically in Afghanistan as shown in the trailer where there's a horseback charge against the Soviets when they occupied Afghanistan in the 1980s.

Whilst the game is set in the future, the story is said to be rooted in fact as revealed in an interview with Mark Lamia of Treyarch by Venture Beat. I may agree in a way that some of these are already coming true that with the example of the Drone with machine guns made by FPS Russia; the technology is already there and we expect them to be more available in the years to come.

Just like in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the plot in the story for Black Ops 2 is the same: a terrorist leader who turned China and the U.S. as pawns just like how Makarov played off Russia and the U.S. plus NATO. The question of "What happens when the enemy steals the keys?" in the trailer is answered by total nightmare. One man having control to high technology that can sow destruction when it's deployed, and nation-states will become part of the game.

Whilst not getting ahead of the story, another feature of Black Ops 2 is the Strike Force where the player can be a commander, managing a team but can switch from one member of the team to another anytime. Managing the Black Ops  team will be via drones and sensors that you can direct them to directions to avoid trouble or get an advantage over the enemy. Sounds like Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon? I think this is even better.

And as a signature Treyarch feature, the Zombie Survival modes are also available in this game just like in the previous Black Ops.

World-wide release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be on the 13th of November 2012. Indeed the future is black.
