Don't You Wish There Is A Vest Like This In Airsoft?

Logan

Meet The KOR-FX, a vest that is development for five years now. I have watched a video of this in 2010 and eager to see this in the market. KOR-FX is a vest that uses acousto-haptic technology. In layperson's terms --- it is a vest that gives feedback to the gamer just like the Force Feedback Controller that was introduced by Sony for the Playstation in the 1990s.

What KOR-FX does is go beyond what the Force Feedback Controller, with your body being able to feel the environmental conditions around the player while playing games. According to Immerz, the company that was established by Iranian-American physicist Shahriar Afshar, KOR-FX works by transforming acousto-haptic signals (audio) coming from your games into pinpointed, high-definition feedback that allows you to feel the onscreen action and environmental factors for the first time. With KOR-FX, watching a movie or playing a game becomes more than recreation - it’s an experience. Using KOR-FX is like switching from analog to digital, or upgrading from standard definition to HD.

What is not clear here if it also gives feedback of being hit by "bullet" when playing a first-person shooter. It would be a good thing to feel such impact of being hit to feel more mortal in this type of a game and going even more tactical.

Immerz intends KOR-FX to give the player what its company name means, an immersive experience. With the development of the Oculus Rift VR technology (and perhaps Sony's Project Morpheus) and the Virtuix Omni, KOR-FX would be the third most important piece of technology that will push the level of virtual reality to a higher one.

Since it is a wireless vest, KOR-FX gives more freedom for the player so that movement and feedback won't be an awkward experience.  There is a developer's kit that would allow one to create games/experiences with KOR-FX and this is kit might be something that an airsoft player with a programming background might want to look into.

KOR-FX can be designed as a tactical vest that can be used by airsoft players during CQB games. The game site owner can create an immersive environment with explosions, military vehicle sounds, etc. What would be great really is to create a wireless device to attach to an airsoft gun that when someone gets hit the tactical vest with the KOR-FX technology would give feedback for the wearer to call the hit and even disable his/her airsoft gun just like the Korean airsoft technology which has a sensor to register hits. There are instances that airsoft vests, especially those with dummy plates, would not give feedback to the player when hit, especially when the airsoft game s at full blast and all AEGs and pyros are just a their loudest. It's just an idea, but it might be a good one.

Right now, KOR-FX is on a pre-order basis and it can work with PCs and gaming consoles, with the player being able to adjust to determine the best gaming/media experience for him/her. This vest is not only for the gamer, even using it in watching movies would enhance to movie experience. I hope it works also with mobile devices so I can play games on the road with the vest on.
