Got Any Chest Rig That Can Go Lighter Than This?

OptimusPrime

If you think you have one, make sure it's lighter than 0.7lbs as that's the weight of The Chest Rig from High Ground. In itself, The Chest Rig looks like a barebones webbing system that will remind you of the old H and Y Harnesses, which made me think that High Ground went back to these old webbing systems as fundamentally, they provide a sound basis of building a modular chest rig system that can be adopted to any mission requirement.

As you can see, The Chest Rig is a bare bones system as it is, though the price of US$79.95 may make you think that it is expensive. But this is a reversible system as you can select between multicam pattern and coyote brown to suit your tactical clothing. The 0.7lbs is the combined weight of the chest rig module (0.3lbs) and the shoulder straps (0.4lbs).

Just like the the Y or H Harnesses, you can then select an assortment of MOLLE pouches and bags that you can mount on The Chest Rig's MOLLE webbing depending on your mission requirements. If you are to go on a mission that expects a firefight, then you an use High Ground's plate carrier to give you body armour protection. Otherwise, if you are on a humanitarian mission, then you will not need the extra weight of the chest plate, and you can add more pouches such as first aid kits, hydration, and other pouches that can make you carry essential needs to meet the mission objectives. Just being able to configure The Chest Rig the the essentials will allow you to be more agile in your operating theatre.

The closest competitors in terms of lightness to The Chest Rig in my experience is the Tasmanian Tiger Chest Rig MKII which I have reviewed three years ago or the spartan Fighting Rig that is used by AK47 users though there are some rigs that are lighter than these. Both are some of the lightest chest rigs that I have used, though the AK47 Fighting Rig is crude and does not provide armour protection, the Tasmanian Tiger Chest Rig MKII can readily accept an armour plate as it has a fold-away bib that you can insert the armour plate at the front. It also comes with pouches and bags but like the fighting rig, is not as highly configurable than The Chest Rig.

Would I recommend this to airsoft players? If they are the practical ones, you bet I will. But there is a good number of airsoft players that are over the top geardos that they will carry a heavier type of vest that will make them carry an unnecessary number of items, as long as they will look good in their loadoout, or to put it bluntly: the camera huggers. This is a too simple system for them to consider.
