IWA 2012 & Outdoor Classics Day 3 Recap

Dom

(UPDATED with videos 2032H GMT 12.03.2012) More on what transpired on my coverage of the third day of the IWA 2012 & Outdoor Classics. This was the first time that Gunfire was present at the IWA and with them they brought a number of goodies. For AK lovers they had the Cyma RPKM now with folding stock and the Beryl AEG, which is made by Ares and Fabryka Broni Radom a Polish gun maker.

The Beryl's handguard, stock and front sight is compatible with the real firearm and I've been told that the factory makes several other accessories that will fit the Polish cousin of the AK. This gun has a fire selector on the left side close to the grip and the original fire selector now only serves as a bolt catch and safety switch The original fire selector serves as a safety switch. Now the bolt imitation travels all the way back giving us plenty room to mess with our Hop-Up. The gun feels solid and the fire selector/bolt catch gives us a user friendly AK variant. The Beryl includes the ARES NCFS.

Gunfire also carries its own line of internal parts, batteries and BBs. Their upgrade motor looks good and the reliable magnets are strong. Their display featured a couple of LiPo batteries and the selection of their ROCKET BBs which are now available in light brown color which is a nice touch if you have ten different types of white BB brands and you want to tell them apart.

Then there was the awaited new GFC M4 fitted with the Airsoft System's ASCU. The ASCU is more than just a simple FET or burst unit although it does all the mentioned features and then some. It is fitted in the gearbox in the place of the switch assembly and replaces that. Now a micro switch will wake up the motor when you pull the trigger. Vladimir of Airsoft Systems carefully chose components to make sure the switch and PCB will handle itchy trigger fingers. The PCB is connected to a sensor at the Hop-Up chamber and the ASCU will stop firing when the magazine is empty. Of course this requires a non standard Hop-Up chamber but this unit now has a different way of adjustment.

Many thanks to the folks at GFC for being extremely helpful and bringing the always busy Vladimir to our Airsoft Meetup.  A demo of the Airsoft Systems new design M4 AEG is shown in the video below:

Going back to the ICS booth, I am intrigued about the gearbox design of the ICS M3 "Grease Gun" which is part of the World War II lineup of the Taiwanese company. They obliged to give the Popular Airsoft readers so here's a brief walkthrough and a takedown of the AEG showing its newly designed gearbox:

MOLOT is a Russian gun manufacturer and while I was looking at their nice looking firearms I've noticed a flyer on the wall saying that an airsoft version of their RPK is under development.

I am not sure what kind of internal parts they will have in this but it will look fine for sure. No plans of GBB version, only AEG. Expect it to pop up a year from now at the Cybergun or ASG booth.

One of the airsoft rifles that is also exciting airsoft players around the world is the Real Sword SVD Gas Blowback Rifle. I wasn't able to talk much to them as their booth was always full when I drop by. But I managed to take a short video of the rifle:

Well, the first Airsoft Meetup at the IWA went pretty well. Ronald/Slickaxe of NLAirsoft even did a live broadcast at Ustream. On this note we would like to thank all our viewers for staying with us. Ronald did a great job being a presenter throughout the event. First, we had Mark with King Arms announcing the Airsoft Division of CAA  and the CAA representative gave us his thought on airsoft and they both answered the questions of Airsoft International Magazine.

Watch the video for details. Then we had ICS and SRC answering questions and after a short break Vladimir of Airsoft Systems arrived to tell his views of airsoft. This is a very interesting video and we should all welcome Vladimir on board. I hope he will keep his passion for many years.

While we're editing and uploading the videos here is is some eye candy. The CAA Roni is pictured along with the M4 accessories and some random images of the meeting.

Next year we'll try to organize the event on an earlier day of the show since most of the media people left by the time of the meeting like Airsoft Action and AATV just to mention a few. It was a good start and many thanks again to everyone who showed up. See you guys next year.

For those who are anxious about the upcoming KWA KRISS Vector GBB SMG, I am posting more photos comparing the real steel and airsoft versions. Click here to see all the photos and find out the differences between these. Enjoy!
