J.J. Abrams’ latest film project is a War Horror Film. Set in D-Day during World War II, “Overlord”,  a group of American paratroopers were dropped behind enemy lines with the objective of infiltrating a village. What they stumbled upon is top secret experiment of Nazi scientists that, unless stopped, will have Nazi zombies conquering the world for the Third Reich.

When it was first revealed, many were speculating the movie that is part of the “Cloverfield” franchise which is produced by J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot Productions, which is also a partner in “Overlord.” However, Abrams it was not the case and that production was kept secret leaving observers to speculate what the movie is all about, with the exception that it was a World War II supernatural film.

J.J. Abrams initially conceived the movie a decade ago with screenwriter Billy Ray writing the script and Paramount Pictures acquiring the rights to the film in 2007 according to Variety. However, the project took only a year ago when production started in 2017 with Julius Avery ("Son of a Gun") directing the film.

The trailer reminds of the “Wolfenstein” first person shooter, specifically “Return to Castle Wolfenstein” (2001) in which the games main character, William "B.J." Blazkowicz, discovers “Operation Resurrection”, a diabolical plan of the Nazis’ Paranormal Division, which is about raising the dead to create the Übersoldaten (super soldiers) and also trying to harness supernatural elements as part of the plan to win World War II. In “Overlord” the paratroopers need to survive by beating the zombie soldiers that have awakened and are coming after them.

The cast is comprised of Wyatt Russell, Jovan Adepo, Jacob Anderson, Dominic Applewhite, Pilou Asbæk, Iain De Caestecker, John Magaro, Mathilde Ollivier, and Bokeem Woodbine.
