It’s quiet in the airsoft front as the flurry of announcements from the airsoft industry was done during the MOA Exhibition 2017 in Taiwan. Surely, there are a lot to look forward to in airsoft next year. But save for the expected product releases this month, we have nothing exciting to report for this week. So might as well go back to something we like second best --- video games.

I don’t know, but many airsoft players I know play MechWarrior. The BattleTech series game has gone through several transformations since it was first released in 1988, with its latest reincarnation being the MechWarrior Online that is playable on Microsoft Windows. But for the in-universe timeline, the latest title in the MechWarrior that will be released in 2018 has been a long time coming. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries follows the release of MechWarrior 4: Vengeance in 2000 which had an expansion pack called MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries in 2002.

Slated to be released in December 2018, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will have cooperative gameplay as its central feature. With up to four players for a coop game, your mates can stand in for the AI player so you can have chance blasting away mechs whilst engaging in friendly banter.

Players had a chance to try MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries during the MechCon last 7 December 2017 in Vancouver, Canada. This was the first opportunity for them to try the game after a year-long teasing from Piranha Games.

As for the campaign which begins in the year 3015, the player takes command of mercenary crew, accepting missions across different planets whilst improving the team. It has a full mod system in which the player can customise their own missions, planetary systems, contracts, and more.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is the first MechWarrior game with a single player campaign in over 15 years.
