When Celebrities Try To Earn Their Stripes

Logan

I have had enough of reality TV shows, well not enough to really quit watching them, or try to avoid them. Sometimes it just can't bear myself watching trainwrecks on TV and sometimes some of the episodes are look so scripted or contrived. Try watching the Kardashians, and watch some of the episodes closely rather than Kim's butt and you get my point. The only reality TV show that I really appreciated was "Little People, Big World" featuring the Roloff family. And don't forget "Combat Missions."

Now speaking of "Combat Missions", it seems to have a reincarnation with a twist. With an eye on ratings, Mark Burnett, the King of Reality TV, together with Dick Wolf and David Hurwitz, has put together "Stars Earn Stripes" and will be shown on NBC. "Stars Earn Stripes" is a celebrity-studded "Combat Missions" and some of the celebrities are familiar to you, especially Dean Cain, boxing champ Laila Ali, and of course a personal favorite, Terry Crews who cracked me up in "White Chicks."

Hosted by General Wesley Clark, the celebrities will be taken to remote training camp and will be accompanied by some elite operators coming from the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, and Police forces. Each week, they will first train with the operators and then execute combat missions. They will earn prizes for military and first responder charities with each week, one gets voted out .

The celebrities are very fit for this show, as they are either sports celebrities, or action stars, and thus perfect for the requirements of the show.  They will be going through missions under the mentorship of some of the best so this will be really interesting. From weapons firing, to infiltration and extraction missions, the production has pulled out all the stops to bring a slam bang, action-packed reality TV show.

So when will the premiere episode aired? It will be on Monday, August 13 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. So either program the series in your recorder, or block off the episode dates for evening watching. It'll be interesting to watch the tactics and all the gear that will be shown.

I guess my love-hate relationship with Reality TV is not over yet.
