What Every Airsofter In Thailand Should Do Under Martial Law

Gungho Cowboy

Early this week, the Thai Military have imposed Martial Law in the country after months of political unrest in the country. Citing the need to "preserve law and order"  and that Martial Law will stay in effect until "peace and order have been fully restored". Many suspect that this is a coup by the military as Thailand is no stranger to coups and military intervention in the political process.

With Thai soldiers manning checkpoints and occupying offices, the country still went to its normal business, and friends in Bangkok say that everything's calm so far. Even citizens are taking selfies with the soldiers in the background.

But amidst the calm surface in the country, airsoft players are concerned if they are able to carry their replica firearms to airsoft games with military checkpoints in place. There are airsofters in the country from overseas who work there and thus, some would need further information. We checked what the locals' advice which airsoft players in Thailand will have to take heed. This information is taken from the Filipino Practical Shooters Thailand Facebook Group which Optimus Prime pointed out to me:

  1. Stay at home avoid unnecessary movement especially during night time. Bring with you your passport or any identification which bears your photo.
  2. Do not attempt to carry firearms or an airsoft gun.

That's simple enough, but there will be frustration amongst players on how long Martial Law will last. The best way really is to ask the local Thai airsoft or shooting organisations as they themselves will be concerned with this development and they will be asking the Thai Military for advice on carrying firearms and airsoft guns for recreational or sports purposes.

Since it's still early, what is recommended is to stay put and go about with the usual daily routine at work and at home. Airsoft activities put on hold and better be prepared for the long haul. Whether guidelines will be issued by the Thai Military or the Martial Law will be lifted once "peace and order" as they define it, get restored, patience is the name of the game for now.
