The perennial debate on airsoft guns sowing confusion if shown publicly. Especially if they are used for mischief, or worse, criminal acts. Sonora, California Police explain that the growing popularity of airsoft guns is also causing them concern as children can buy these as there are no regulations banning them from acquiring one. Without adult supervision, they will show off these in public, putting themselves in danger. More is needed by the airsoft community to minimise misuse of airsoft to avoid harsh criticisms from the unsuspecting public and extreme PC folks. More on this at The Union Democrat Paper.
If it looks like a gun, that’s enough for an officer to shoot.
That is a concern for law enforcement officers with a breed of guns that closely resemble real firearms.
Airsoft pistols are recreational guns that shoot small plastic, largely harmless BBs.
For those using the proper safety equipment, getting caught in a crossfire would likely result in little more than a welt or bruise, say area retailers who sell them.
Law enforcement officials, however, said they are commonly used in crimes, such as robberies. This can cause misunderstandings if law enforcement arrives at the scene of the crime, said Lt. Dan Bressler of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.
“An officer is going to be unable to tell the difference between an airsoft gun and a real gun, and it could put us in a very precarious position if we are confronted with such a situation as that,” he said.
