The last time a shooter game based for the PC and consoles from the “Alien” franchise was the “Colonial Marines” in 2013 and it was panned by critics for uninspiring game play and mediocre graphics. Then it was followed by was said to be the best “Aliens” game, “Alien: Isolation” which was release the year after though it is not exactly a shooter game as it is more of a stealth and survival horror video game.

Will the upcoming “Aliens: Fireteam” make us love again shooting xenomorphs as they swarm and try to overwhelm your fireteam?

Set to be released in Summer 2021, “Aliens: Fireteam” is a third-person shooter cooperative game being developed by Cold Iron Studios in cooperation with Disney’s 20th Century Games unit. Set 23 years after the original Alien film trilogy, in which Colonial Marines on board USS Endeavor answer a distress call from the outer colonies. The goal of the three-person fireteam is to survive the onslaught of the alien creatures and be able to get out alive.

The game is a class-based with each player able to choose the character class such as Gunner, Demolisher, Technician, Doc and Recon. They will not be lacking in targets to shoot at as there 20 enemy types, including 11 types of xenomorphs as well as the Weyland-Yutani synthetics.

The player can play with other human players or with AI team mates and they have an arsenal of weapons and weapons to choose from, character progression and even an advancement system. With the Challenge Cards, players are able to mutate each mission which results into a new game experience.

In a press release, Craig Zinkievich, Head of Cold Iron Studios said, “This is the action game Aliens fans have been waiting for – hordes of different Xenomorphs swarming over ceilings and across walls, surrounding your team and striking from every angle. Work together, customize your character, utilize tons of weapons and gear and…well, you just might get your fireteam out alive.”

“Aliens: Fireteam” will be available on Steam by Summer 2021 and it can be played on the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. There is no cross-play nor cross-progression amongst platforms.
