Christensen Arms has decided to bring back its Modern Precision Pistol (MPP), a compact bolt-action firearm that attempts to bridge the gap between rifle-grade performance and pistol portability. Originally appearing in 2021, the MPP's return features some updates, aiming to carve out a niche in backcountry hunting, tactical applications, and precision shooting. This reintroduction suggests the Utah-based manufacturer is keen to re-emphasize its presence in the high-performance firearms arena.
The initial rollout of the revamped MPP offers two calibers: .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor. These are selections often favored for their long-range accuracy and effectiveness, catering to both hunters and those involved in precision shooting who might be looking for a lighter, albeit still potent, sidearm. Christensen Arms has hinted that other chamberings could follow, contingent on market reception and user feedback. It seems the company is keeping an ear to the ground, rather than simply shooting in the dark.
One of the features of the MPP is a 12.5-inch 416R stainless steel barrel, which is then enveloped in aero-grade carbon fiber. This construction is intended to reduce the overall weight while contributing to barrel rigidity and heat dissipation, a sensible approach for a compact firearm. The barrel also features a target profile and a threaded muzzle, complete with a removable stainless steel side baffle brake, allowing for the attachment of suppressors and other muzzle devices. It’s a design that seems to whisper, "Adaptability, my dear Watson."

The chassis of the MPP is made of 7075 aluminum and given a hardcoat black anodized finish. It incorporates a V-block bedding system, which is typically associated with improved accuracy, and is designed to be compatible with standard AR-pattern pistol grips. For the sake of portability, the inclusion of a folding SB Tactical FS1913A stabilizing brace allows the MPP to collapse into a more compact form, making it easier to stow away in a backpack or vehicle, much like a well-behaved umbrella on a fickle British day.
Further enhancements include a carbon fiber handguard equipped with M-LOK slots for mounting accessories, two QD sling attachment points, and a forward-mount rail with an integrated barricade stop. The pistol also comes with a TriggerTech flat trigger and an oversized tactical bolt knob, elements that suggest a focus on a more premium feel and user-friendly ergonomics. One might say they've dotted their i's and crossed their t's in the comfort department.

The MPP's receiver is precision-machined and finished with black nitride, aiming for resistance against corrosion and improved durability. A skeletonized bolt handle is intended to ensure smooth cycling, while the AICS-compatible detachable magazine system offers reliable feeding and quick reloads. These features align the MPP rather closely with Christensen Arms’ Modern Precision Rifle (MPR), from which it appears to have inherited a good deal of its design DNA. It's almost as if the rifle had a slightly smaller, equally capable offspring.
Tipping the scales at a mere 6 pounds, the MPP is clearly designed with mobility in mind, without, according to the manufacturer, sacrificing performance. Its compact dimensions and folding brace lend themselves to a variety of uses, from outdoor adventures and tactical operations to competitive shooting. The pistol's legal classification also offers potential advantages in areas where the regulations surrounding rifle ownership might be a bit more restrictive, providing a possible workaround for the discerning firearm enthusiast.
Shane Meisel, VP of Marketing at Christensen Arms said:
"The relaunched MPP delivers the same precision and reliability our customers expect from Christensen Arms, now in a compact pistol platform. Whether you’re navigating rugged terrain or competing at the range, the MPP is built to excel in any scenario.”
With a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $2,295, the Modern Precision Pistol is positioned as a higher-end option within the bolt-action pistol market. It is currently available through authorized Christensen Arms dealers. For those interested in the finer details, specifications, or indeed, in acquiring one, the official Christensen Arms website is the place to visit. One might consider it an investment, or perhaps simply a very capable solution to the age-old problem of needing a rifle in a pistol's body.
