CZ Bren 2 PPS

The first batch of the CZ Bren 2 PPS has been delivered to the Czech Army according to CZ Defense Magazine.  Developed by Česká zbrojovka a.s. (CZ) using the CZ Bren 2 as the basis and using the  7.62x51mm, it is the replacement of the 7.62×54mm SVD Dragunov that has been the DMR for decades as well as the SVDN-3 Tiger. The CZ Bren 2 itself is based on the 805 Bren and there is an airsoft version produced under license by Action Sport Games (ASG).

A total number of 350 units have been ordered and the Czech Army has received 242 that will be issued to the 7th Mechanized Brigade, the 4th Rapid Deployment Brigade, the 43rd Airborne Regiment and the 102nd Reconnaissance Battalion. They are expecting the remaining 108 units to be delivered by the end of the year.

Whilst the Bren 2 PPS can be mistaken for the Bren 2 BR, the PPS has a much longer barrel which is about 18” and the BR is 16”. It has a total length of 51.8”, weighs 4.6kg, a range of 600-800 metres, and accuracy 2 MOA. For the magazine, it has the 25-round AR-10 CZ magazine that is made of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, which is the same magazine used by the BR. The development of the PPS took two years.

The Czech Army has concluded a supply agreement with CZ for 39,000 different small arms in 2020. Israel Defense reported that at the end of 2021 it also signed a contract with FN Herstal to supply the 949 Minimi/M49 I 7.62mm and 5.56mm calibers for use by infantry units that is worth US$50 million. The contract also includes sights, armor kits, cases, and packaging.

Will it be something that ASG will be eyeing as the next airsoft rifle? What do you think?
