Be ready to for another round of Kung Fu and lots of guns as the “Matrix 4” has been greenlighted. That is the great news indeed. But what is even greater news is that Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity) will be back in for the 4th movie with Lana Wachowski writing and directing sans sister Lilly Wachowski who co-wrote and co-directed the original The Matrix.

“The Matrix” was a ground breaking movie in which set the town on how action movies are done by the turn of the 21st Century. Effects such as “bullet time” and wire Fu, which was the staple of Hong Kong action and martial arts movies became more of norm for the next Hollywood action movies. It was chosen as the fourth best Science Fiction movie in the Best in Film: The Greatest Movies of Our Time, a special that was aired on ABC in 2011.

Variety reported that efore everything about production of the “Matrix” was confirmed, it was first rumored that the Wachowskis were not involved and that Zak Penn the writer of “Ready Player One” was in talks with the Warner Brothers to write the 4th Matrix movie with Michael B. Jordan to be in the starring role, though it was not mention if he is going to play one of the more central characters in the movie, more specifically Morpheus which was the role of Laurence Fishburne in the original trilogy.

With the inclusion of Reeves, Moss and one of the Wachowski sisters writing and directing, we see a continuity of the Matrix though we do not know if this will be the start of another trilogy like the Star Wars or Lord of the Rings franchise. Having a Wachowski will ensure that the influences of the Matrix such as the various ideas from some of the major religions, mythology, cinema, literary works and philoshophy, will be woven tightly that only a Wachowski can do.

We are curious on how “Matrix 4” will pan out. In “Matrix Revolutions” the move ended with the Matrix rebooted after Neo defeated Agent Smith, preventing him from conquering the real world and the Matrix; and that humans were given the chance to leave the Matrix. Nobody knows what happened to Neo after he was carried away by the machines, heavily injured after his final fight against Agent Smith.

In the closing scene, the child Sati asked the Oracle what happened to Neo. The Oracle said that they might see Neo again but when asked by Seraph, her guard, she said she doesn’t know, but she believes.

For those who believed that they will watch Neo again in another Matrix production, they are soon to be rewarded.
