People have been mounting underbarrel weapons to their rifles such as grenade launchers and masterkey shotguns for breaching. The latest is the ability to mount an underbarrel flamethrower, while it may sound terrific, is something we’d rather not recommend in airsoft unless it is just a dummy.

Still we get fascinated by such a contraption and Exothermic Technologies, a company that specializes on flamethrowers, announced at their website, the Pulsefire UBF (Underbarrel Flamethrower) which will be made available in June 2022.

This is a form factor version of their Pulsefire LRT System and has the same 25-foot reach and nearly 22 seconds of fuel capacity. It can be used fully handheld, mounted to a picatinny equipped device, or even with the optional 3.3 gallon Pulsefire Backpack Kit using a simple male-male adapter fitting on the fuel hose. With the Backpack Kit, fuel capacity is extended to over 4 minutes.

To ignite the flamethrower, it uses Arc Ignition, a continuous electric ignition which eliminates the need to bring a flame torch or lighter for ignition. The battery can be quickly swapped for a new one and there is a low voltage indicator.

Having a flamethrower for civilian uses has many purposes from starting bonfires, melting snow and ice, burning insect hives, weeds, controlled burns in agriculture and forestry, as well as for special effects in film and TV.

But with the ability to be attached as an underbarrel accessory (or weapon), it is easy to imagine its military application (think Iwo Jima in World War II).  Sorry, there is no need for airsoft but can be used for clearing airsoft fields to make them safer to use.

It would be interesting to have a dummy or a working model of the Pulsefire UBF for airsoft, though it would rather be an underbarrel water gun instead of being flamethrower, just for kicks.

When available, the Pulsefire UBF will cost US$689.99 and it is not legal in California or Maryland.
