Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. has expanded its LCP MAX pistol line with two new iterations, models 13749 and 13754, both incorporating a manual safety lever. This addition responds to a segment of consumer preference for an external safety mechanism on compact firearms. The safety lever is positioned on the left side of the frame, designed for accessible engagement.
The LCP MAX series is known by its compact dimensions, engineered for concealed carry. These pistols offer magazine capacities of 10+1 and 12+1 rounds while maintaining a relatively slim profile. The new models continue to feature a matte stainless steel slide with polished sides, designed to provide adequate purchase for slide manipulation. The grip frame is textured, which may contribute to a stable hold during use.

Model 13754 includes a magazine disconnect and a loaded chamber indicator. The magazine disconnect is a feature that prevents the pistol from firing when the magazine is removed. The loaded chamber indicator provides a visual cue regarding the presence or absence of a round in the chamber, which can aid in confirming the firearm's status. These features are often included to address specific safety considerations.

Both new LCP MAX models are equipped with tritium front sights featuring a white outline, intended to provide visibility in varying light conditions for target acquisition. The rear sight incorporates a U-notch for sight alignment and a squared front face, which may be used for one-handed slide manipulation. The sight dovetails are compatible with some aftermarket sight patterns, allowing for potential user customization.
Ruger has also implemented internal revisions to the LCP MAX, focusing on components such as magazine feed lips, the feed ramp, extractor, and barrel cam geometries. The patented barrel cam geometry is designed to delay unlocking and reduce slide velocity, which can affect felt recoil during firing. This design aims to enhance the shooting experience in comparison to some other .380 Auto pistols.

The Secure Action fire-control system remains a characteristic of the LCP MAX. This system integrates an internal hammer with a bladed-safety trigger. The design is intended to provide a consistent trigger pull, a discernible break, and a positive reset, contributing to the pistol's operational characteristics.
Each pistol ships with a 10-round magazine, a soft pocket holster, and a magazine loader. The reversible magazine release is a feature that accommodates both left and right-handed users. The LCP MAX weighs approximately 10.6 ounces and has an overall length of 5.17 inches, positioning it as a lightweight option within the personal protection firearm category.
