Is The Overcap All-Weather Removable Hood Tacticool Enough To Use In Airsoft?

Overcap All-Weather Hood

I hate the hoods of ponchos and jackets as they tend to go over my eyes and block my view whenever I pull one over my head and when I turn my head to look to my side, the hood blocks my view still. Also, a strong gust of wind pulls off it. My solution sometimes is to put on a shooting or ball cap first so that the visor can block the hood from going over my eyes and helps keep the hood steady. But sometimes I don’t have a shooting cap with me.

Looking for alternative hoods online led me to this crowdfunding project on Indiegogo. Called the Overcap, the designers call it the world’s first all-weather removable hood. Made for outdoor enthusiasts, it is available in two colors,  but when I saw the woodland camo option, it made me think of its tacticool value as it is a steady hood for someone to use in wet weather airsoft games.

Like a folding fan, it is easy to fold and unfold and it is easily adjustable as compared to the usual hood we see on jackets. It isolates from the rain and with its rigid design will stay on even under 80kph winds and protects from UV rays with a UPF 50 rating, meaning it blocks off 98% of UV rays.

It uses riptop fabric which of course means that it is resistant to wearing and ripping. The collar has provision through which you can pass through a hydration tube and you can attach it to your backpack straps so you don’t have to worry on to make it work with a backpack on. The design also gives you a wider field of view so you get a better view of what’s ahead of you and even the periphery.

There are accessories to go with it such as a matching backpack cover, mosquito netting to protect the face from insects, and a special harness.

So far so good, but what do you think? The first thing that I want for this hood is more color options, such as more camo patterns as well as OD and Tan colours (and even Grey). I also want to see it checked how it can be used with a tactical helmet especially with the rail-equipped helmets if they can get snagged it they’re both worn at the same time.

Designed in France, you can get one at an early price of €79 for the basic package on Indiegogo. The prices go higher depending on the accessories you want to go with it. OptimusPrime is thinking of getting one as it can be useful for taking photos/videos or for shooting with a better view under the rain during airsoft games. It has 16 days remaining for it to be fully funded.
