Tisas PX-9 Comp

SDS Arms, the firm that brings a lot of Tisas's wares across the pond, has decided that the well-regarded Tisas PX-9 Comp family of striker-fired pistols needed more company. Not content with the existing PX-9 Duty Comp holding down the fort, they've introduced a pair of siblings: the Tisas PX-9 Carry Comp and the Tisas PX-9 Tactical Comp. It seems Tisas is keenly aware that in the world of 9mm polymer pistols, one size absolutely does not fit all. These newcomers arrive on the scene, each tailored for a slightly different role, though they all clearly share the same competitive DNA.

What unites these three "Comp" models are features that were once the exclusive domain of higher-end pistols. Both the new Carry and Tactical models inherit the key upgrades from the Duty Comp. Chief among these is a match-grade barrel featuring a single-port design that acts as a compensator, directing gas upwards to mitigate muzzle flip and make those follow-up shots notably quicker. It's the kind of feature that screams, "We took performance seriously," without resorting to, shall we say, excessive marketing hype.

Beyond the barrel, Tisas has included a new aluminum, flat-faced trigger. The flat profile is a popular choice among serious shooters for its consistent feel and clean break—and it even includes an integrated safety, which is always nice for the peace of mind. The controls have been refined, and the slide now sports updated machining, which presumably aids in manipulation and gives the pistols a more polished look. A true nod to customization is the inclusion of interchangeable grip panels and backstraps, allowing for up to 27 different grip configurations. Trying to find a handgun that fits your hand can sometimes feel like a cruel game of geometry, so this level of tailored fit is genuinely appreciated.

Of course, a good pistol needs to be reliable for the long haul. Tisas has clearly put some thought into longevity. All the Comp models benefit from a Tenifer QPQ finish on the slide and frame parts. This nitride treatment is known for its resistance to corrosion and wear, which is handy whether you're sweating on the competition range or carrying concealed in less-than-ideal weather. Furthermore, the internal components have been treated with a nickel coating, offering another layer of protection against the elements. If you’re the type to leave your cleaning kit untouched for longer than you should, this might just be your new best friend.

The PX-9 Carry Comp is clearly aimed at the everyday defender. It manages to shoehorn competition-grade features into a compact, easily concealable package. Designed for everyday carry and self-defense, it doesn't skimp on the performance enhancements just because it's smaller. It’s chambered in 9mm, an ever-reliable caliber, and comes standard with a polymer flared magazine well—a small touch that can make a big difference when the clock is ticking on a fast reload. Its magazine capacity is substantial for a carry gun, including both 15- and 17-round P228-pattern magazines, offering a good balance between discretion and firepower.

Switching gears, the PX-9 Tactical Comp leans into the full-size pistol category. It utilizes the standard PX-9 frame but is equipped with a slightly longer 5.1-inch barrel. The extra barrel length contributes to increased sight radius for better inherent accuracy and provides a bit more mass out front for enhanced muzzle control. While the Carry Comp is a great tool for personal defense, the Tactical is built with the needs of professional use, competition, and advanced shooters in mind.

To further accommodate the demands of high-volume shooting and competition, the Tactical Comp includes several extended controls. Shooters will find an extended aluminum magazine well to make reloads even more fumble-proof, as well as an extended take-down lever and magazine catch for easier manipulation. Much like its compact counterpart, the Tactical is generous with its included magazines, shipping with high-capacity 18- and 20-round P226-pattern options. This compatibility with common Sig Sauer P226 magazines is a welcome surprise for many budget-conscious shooters, as finding spare magazines can often be a painful expense.

“We’re thrilled to add to our Tisas PX-9 family and round out the collection with these new additions,” said SDS Arms Vice President of Sales and Marketing Neil Sanders “Whether you are looking for an everyday carry or competition pistol, the Tisas PX-9 Carry Comp and Tactical Comp boast advanced upgrades that make them exceptionally accurate and reliable. We believe these pistols will quickly become favorites for serious shooters who demand precision.”

Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the new Tisas Comp pistols, and indeed the Tisas brand in general, is the price point. The Tisas USA PX-9 Tactical Comp clocks in with a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $539.21, while the more carry-focused PX-9 Carry Comp is listed at $562.20. In a market where similar feature sets from other brands can push far into four-digit territory, these prices underscore Tisas's apparent commitment to the "budget performance" category. It's a reminder that sometimes, you don't need to empty your savings to get a modern, feature-rich pistol.

The Tisas PX-9 series, with its P226 magazine compatibility and feature-packed design, inevitably draws comparisons to pistols like the Springfield Armory XD series, which the original Tisas PX-9 models were clearly inspired by. However, with the addition of factory compensators and premium controls at these price points, the new Carry and Tactical Comp models truly carve out a unique space. They represent a very compelling option for shooters seeking performance without the typical premium price tag. The consensus online suggests that Tisas has delivered on reliability and accuracy, making these new offerings worthy of serious consideration for your next polymer pistol purchase.
