SIG Sauer has just introduced the 516-MOHAWK, a next-generation evolution of its 516 rifle platform that is designed to meet the demands of modern tactical operators. One of the products revealed during the company’s 2025 SIG NEXT product revelation that took place last week, the 516-MOHAWK blends proven engineering with cutting-edge enhancements, positioning itself as a mission-ready carbine for both professional and civilian use.

A selling point of the 516-MOHAWK is a short-stroke gas piston system, which is part of the 516 lineage, is now paired with a three-position adjustable gas block. This configuration allows users to fine-tune gas flow for suppressed or unsuppressed fire, ensuring consistent performance across diverse operational environments. The rifle is chambered in 5.56 NATO and features a 16-inch cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1:7 twist rate, optimized for durability and accuracy.
Another feature of the MOHAWK is its dual charging system that includes both a non-reciprocating side charger and a traditional rear charging handle. This offers flexibility and ease of use in high-stress scenarios. This feature has led to improvements in the rifle’s ergonomics, allowing shooters to adapt their manipulation techniques based on mission requirements or personal preference.

The rifle has reinforced steel components in high-wear areas such as the cam path and feed ramp for the rifle’s long-term reliability. With the inclusion of fully ambidextrous controls such as the bolt catch, magazine release, safety selector, and charging handle shows SIG Sauer’s commitment to design firearms that cater to both left- and right-handed operators.
The rifle ships standard with a SIG Matchlite DUO curved trigger, known for its crisp break and minimal reset, enhancing precision shooting. A free-floating M-LOK handguard provides ample space for mounting accessories, whilst the SIG flash hider compensator helps manage muzzle rise and flash signature.

Weighing in at approximately 7.7 pounds and measuring 36.5 inches in overall length, the 516-MOHAWK maintains a balanced profile suitable for extended carry and manoeuvrability. Its robust construction and modularity make it a compelling option for law enforcement, military, and discerning civilian shooters seeking a piston-driven AR platform with modern refinements.
As part of the broader SIG NEXT lineup, the MOHAWK reflects the company’s forward-looking approach to small arms development, offering a rifle that is as adaptable as it is dependable. Next up in this NEXT 2025 lineup that will feature will be the P365 Flux.
