We first announced in the airsoft world, the Sionyx Aurora Action Camera, the world’s first action cam with colour night vision. It is a revolutionary in a way that you can now see better in the dark in colour rather than being stuck the green glow typical in night vision devices. Whilst it is cheaper than many tactical Night Vision devices, at US$799.00 it is still an expensive device for many. Honestly, it is in the wish list of many including us contributors to Popular Airsoft.

But there is a chance to still own one as Sionyx revealed a more affordable version called the Aurora Sport:

With a pre-order price of US$399.00, and that means it’s almost US$300.00 cheaper than the original Aurora action camera. It has most of the capabilities of the original, such as the 1-inch 0.9MP ultra low-light CMOS sensor and night vision capabilities, 720p HD resolution, timelapse, and mobile device controls via Wifi. What is missing is GPS, which I guess many would not mind just to own a full colour night vision action camera.

With the mobile app, it makes it easier to share footages on social media. The only caveat we have with the Aurora Sport is that the initial product photos show it in white which of course means it’s not tactical enough for the taste of airsoft players.  It would be nice if it would be available in several colours for us to choose from.

It is rated IP67 of water resistance, able to withstand water of up to three feet for 30 minutes. For storage, it takes 32GB MicroSD card. The 720p HD resolution may sound to be disappointing for those who are already used to ultra high definition/4K resolution action cameras such as the GoPro Hero Black series, but for now there are no alternatives or even an affordable device that can give us full colour night vision capability.
