Tanio Koba & Baton Airsoft BM-9 CO2GBB Pistol

Tanio Kobayashi is still at it and at age 83, there are no signs up of letting up in terms of coming out with tech designs for airsoft and cap guns as well. His latest creation is in collaboration with Baton Airsoft (Gunsmith Baton) and it is called the BM-9 CO2GBB Pistol.

The BM-9 CO2GBB is based on the Beretta M9A3, which was Beretta’s entry to the Modular Handgun System of the U.S. Army that was eventually won by the SIG Sauer P320 pistol. Looking at the initial photos, the BM-9 CO2GBB is a faithful replica of the Beretta M9A3.

This pistol uses the patented Tanio Koba CO2 valve that achieves low gas consumption and high durability. This is translated into reduced running costs, more stable initial speed and improved accuracy. Approximately 140 shots can be fired with one CO2 cartridge. It also has the STGA (All Japan Toygun Safety Association) certification and that means a product that has passed the product safety inspection that conforms to 0.98 joules or less specified by the Revised Gun Sword Act using a certified CO2 gas. With that approval, the BM-9 CO2GBB can be sold in the Japanese market as it meets local requirements.

According to Hyperdouraku, the pistol is manufactured in Taiwan with both the slide and lower frame made of resin. The total length is 235 mm, and the weight is 826g without the CO2 cartridge. The outer barrel is made of metal and the muzzle has a 14mm reverse thread.

Just like the M9A3, it has an under rail so you can mount and weapon accessory such as weapon light or a laser module. It has similarities with the M92FS such as the slide stop, take down lever, and the safety lever. The adjustable hop-up is found at the chamber side. It has all the markings seen in the M9A3 though Hyperdouraku remarks than the logo on the grip looks like it has three flathead screwdrivers.

The BM-9 CO2GBB Pistol is set for first shipment in September 2019 and the second shipment will be in October 2019. Pricing will be JPY20,300 or US$187 for the FDE without tax, and JPY19,800 or US$183 at prevailing exchange rates as of this writing. Spare magazine is JPY4,980 or US$46. Pricing may vary and there is no information if Baton Airsoft will export. Perhaps overseas airsoft players can order from other authorised sellers in Japan.
