Tokyo Marui SAIGA-12K GBB Shotgun & M29 .45 Magnum At The 61st Shizuoka Hobby Show
OptimusPrime
11 May 2023
The 61st Shizuoka Hobby Show is in full swing, having opened the doors to trade visitors yesterday and for the airsoft community, all eyes are mainly on what Tokyo Marui will announce as new products and put on display at the trade show for visitors to talk about.
But first, everybody will be more interested in the SAIGA-12K which, when released will be the first gas blowback shotgun in the market. It looks like it will be released sometime in summer 2023 if all goes according to plan. At the trade floor, it has its own shooting booth with visitors given tickets and time slots in order to try the airsoft shotgun.
According the company, it took some time for them to fix the bugs during its development and are happy that visitors will be able try it for the first time. Feedback from those who have tried the SAIGA-12K GBBS has been very good and the recoil is intense. The shooting tests at the booth will also help the company gather concerns and issues as experienced by those who tried it and will then make the adjustments before releasing it.
The gas magazine that will come with the SAIGA-12K GBBs has maximum capacity of 45 BBs. Unlike the Tokyo Marui M870 Gas Shotgun series where there is an option of firing 3 or 6 BBs, the SAIGA-12K GBBS is limited to 3 BBs per trigger pull.
Due to soaring costs of materials, they have decided to increase pricing to JPY54,800 (around US$408), tax not included. Pricing will differ for overseas buyers.
NEW PRODUCTS
Tokyo Marui M29 .44 Magnum Revolver
In the pipeline with no information and pricing is the Tokyo Marui M29 .44 Magnum Revolver with two versions being developed --- 6.5 inches and 4 inches. The revolvers are air cocking so there is no need for a power source such as gas. After loading the cartridges with the BBs and inserting them into the cylinder, all one has to do is operate the hammer and pull the trigger to fire.
The front sight marker (the red part of the front sight) is produced as a separate part to improve visibility. The rear sight can be adjusted vertically and horizontally. As for the firing system, it is single action only and has a fixed hop-up.
The ammunition for the M29 is a .44 Magnum. As it is a larger round compared to the .357 magnum used in the Colt Python, Tokyo Marui's M29 .44magnum cartridge is also a special item that is slightly larger than the Python one. It also means the cartridges are not compatible with the Tokyo Marui Colt Python or SAA.45 revolvers.
Spare .44 Magnum cartridges and a speedloader made for it are going to be sold separately.
Tokyo Marui Bakelite Real Skin AK Gas Magazine For AKM & AKX GBB Rifles
The 35-BB round Bakelite Real Skin AK Gas Magazine for the AKM & AKX GBB rifles has been revealed. The image is scanned from the actual magazine that is then processed and reproduced with special printing. The stamps on both sides are also reproduced and the magazine is made of die-cast aluminum. The pricing and release date is still to be determined.
Tokyo Marui Finest BBs
Last year, the company’s attempts at releasing a biodegradable BB hit an obstacle in the form of the Consumer Affairs Agency for unjustifiable premiums and misrepresentations and made to retract is labeling of what it called to be “Bio BBs”. They sent out a public apology and made a rebrand calling the BBs “Finest BBs” and making no mention of these to be biodegradable BBs.
The “Finest BBs” have weights from 0.2g to 0.28g and these contain PLA or Polylactic acid , a naturally derived ingredient that does not use petroleum-based plastics. It has become the most used bioplastic in the world due to its being economically produced from renewable resources. These have high-precision polishing finish with diameter error within ±0.01mm! The 0.12g “Finest BBs” contains P-Life + wood powder.
They are planning 1kg bags of the “Finest BBs” which they will announce in the future when they are going to be available.
Lycoris Recoil Gas Blowback Pistol
First teased in February 2023, Tokyo Marui announced that they have developing a gas blowback pistol based on the pistol used by Chisato of “Lycoris Recoil”. Whilst there is a stand about the product at the trade fair, there is no prototype on display. We are speculating that this GBB pistol is a combination of the Tokyo Marui Detonics .45 Combat Master and Tokyo Marui Strike Warrior GBB Pistol.
They also mention that the previously announced P320 Gas Blowback Pistol is still in development and there is no prototype on display at the show.
