An interesting post by Dr. Airsoft at Airsoft Medicine regarding Big Box Stores as one of the two main sources of airsoft guns that are used in situations that cause eye injuries to persons... "'Big Box' stores are documented as the source of airsoft guns in a significant number of airsoft eye injuries according to a 2013 study published in the March edition of the French Journal of Ophthalmology. Results of the study find, 'In one out of every two cases, the gun had been won at a booth in a fair or had been purchased in a big-box store.'"

Whilst it is a French study, Dr. Airsoft also states this confirms what Thumpy and airsoft stores in the USA have been saying all along --- about the "craptastic plastic" being sold outside of specialty stores of the risks they pose to individuals in the U.S. too. Specialty stores provide more information and assistance regarding their products and even take customers to test products with corresponding instructions on safety.
