It looks like the colonial marines are being called back into service, though hopefully with slightly better job security this time around. Enad Global 7 (EG7) has officially pulled back the curtain on Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, confirming that Daybreak and Cold Iron Studios have teamed up once again with 20th Century Games. If you spent your 2021 dodging acid spit and welding doors shut and having a blast doing it, you’ll likely find the news of a sequel quite agreeable.
The original Aliens: Fireteam Elite served as a steady proof of concept for Cold Iron Studios. It managed to carve out a respectable niche in the mid-market segment, proving that there is still plenty of appetite for a cooperative third-person shooter that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It set up a firm foundation, even if most of that foundation was covered in xenomorph residue and spent pulse rifle casings.
This upcoming sequel, currently slated for a global release in late Q3 2026, aims to broaden the scope of the original’s survival-based antics. It is being developed for the usual suspects in terms of hardware: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. It seems the developers are keen to ensure no one is left behind when the motion tracker starts pinging.

A welcome development in the sequel is the move to four-player co-op. While the earlier outing was a three-person affair, the addition of a fourth teammate should provide a bit more breathing room, or at least another person to accidentally strafe into your line of fire. It’s a logical expansion that brings the title in line with many of its contemporaries in the cooperative shooter genre.
Beyond just adding another body to the squad, Cold Iron is promising a variety of mechanical overhauls. We are told to expect new and enhanced class systems, which should allow for more specific roles within a team. Whether you prefer to be the one holding the smart gun or the one desperately trying to keep the sentry turrets operational, the options appear to be getting a thorough polish.

Progression and customisation are also receiving a bit of an architectural upgrade as the developers are aiming for deeper mechanics here, intending to give players more reasons to tinker with their loadouts between missions. The goal is to foster a bit more longevity, moving away from a one-and-done campaign towards a system that encourages repeated excursions into the dark.
From a business perspective, this announcement is a significant marker in EG7’s current roadmap. The Group has been vocal about its strategy to lean into established intellectual properties, and the Aliens brand is about as established as they come. It’s a move designed to stabilise their pipeline with a title that carries built-in recognition and a pre-existing fan base.

As previously hinted at by the Group, this sequel is expected to be a primary driver for their financial performance in 2026. It sits alongside several other key titles in their portfolio, suggesting that the year is being viewed as a pivotal one for the company's growth. For the suits at the top, it’s about performance; for the rest of us, it’s about not getting hugged by a facehugger.
While we still have a fair wait until the late 2026 launch, the groundwork looks solid enough. There is a certain comfort in knowing what to expect: dark corridors, clicking mandibles, and the inevitable panic when the ammunition runs low. For now, we can simply keep an eye on the horizon and perhaps spend the intervening years practicing our aim.
