Whilst Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be introducing a 2vs2 mode, Battlefield V was already ahead in this versus mode as EA announced that a 5vs5 mode will be introduced to the game early this year. Will these be new categories or divisions for their own eSports leagues? We do not know, but before these get into eSports they should be mature enough and compellingly competitive to get the interests of players who are aspiring to be eSports pros.

But a big setback with the plans for Battlefield V, DICE, the developer of the game has announced that the 5vs5 mode has been cancelled. The developer has decided to focus its energies on bug quashing and content creation for Battlefield V. This is the announcement as posted on the blog of Battlefield V which features an interview with DICE’s Senior Producer, Ryan MacArthur:

The added focus on improving the quality of the experience and adding more of the content you want has led us to step back from our original plans to offer a competitive 5v5 mode. Not creating this mode was a tough decision, but vital for us to more quickly reach our bug-crushing and content goals. However, we will still pursue building a competitive gaming experience in Battlefield™. We know that there’s already an existing competitive scene in our community, and we’re helping build features to support these communities. We want to work more closely with our players to help improve the tools that they have available to shape their play experience. This way, we can better support the places where competitive Battlefield V play already exists.

This change in focus allows us to better deliver on our promise of new content that we know our players will love, as well as providing new ways to enjoy some of our more intense existing modes.

Since its release in November 2018, the players have experienced invisible players, infinite loading screens, and spawn issues. It has always been tough for Battlefield developers as they have encountered bug problems in previous releases, sometimes dropping the ball when they had a title that can take the battle to Call of Duty.

In the same blogpost, it was mentioned that version 4.4 will bring two new maps and players will see an increase in the maximum rank that they can achieve. It will also fixes the stuttering issues, desyncs seen on hitboxes, and tweaks to the Commorose. Players will be able to see them in this weekend’s Gamescon 2019.

To be introduced next month is the version 4.6 update that will correct the problems that players encountered in AI Sundan and the Operation Underground map will be in the Conquest, Team Deathmatch, Breakthrough, and Squad Conquest modes.

It’s a decision that DICE had to make, rather than introducing new modes or features, it still best to focus on fixing the issues at hand since introducing new features might just increase more problems. Pretty sure will players will not have a problem with that as long as their gaming experience improves with what they presently have.
