Build Your Own LEGO Heavy Weapon That Actually Works

OptimusPrime

What's more hardcore than putting an airsoft gun together? Putting a working LEGO Heavy Weapon together. If you are into challenges in making working models with LEGO bricks, then you might want to read "LEGO Heavy Weapons" with which you get to put guns that actually fire. Don't think that LEGO bricks are for kids, in fact adult males are the main buyers of LEGO products nowadays. So don't mind Junior when he cries that you have taken away his LEGO, Daddy wants to play too.

"LEGO Heavy Weapons: Build Working Replicas of Four of the World's Most Impressive Guns" was written by 17 year old Jack Streat for that child in you. In this book you get to build a Desert Eagle blowback pistol, an AKS74U, a bolt-action Lee Enfield "Jungle Carbine", and a pump-action SPAS combat shotgun. This is not for impatient as you will encounter over 350 pages of instructions on how to put these together. Getting the book is one thing, then collecting all the bricks to make one, if not all of these weapons, is another thing. If you are already a LEGO aficionado then you might already have all the bricks to put these together.

In the demo video which you will be able to watch below, the AKS74U and Lee Enfield can fire projectiles which are also loaded via their magazines. The projectiles are also LEGO stuff and it's cool that loading ammo and inserting the magazines are just like how you do with firearms, whether airsoft or real steel. Too bad that the AKS74U is a bolt-action type rather than having semi or full-auto firing, but it’s still very cool. For the SPAS shotgun, you can load the "shotgun shells" just like the real thing and fire at targets.

The Desert Eagle features a cool blowback function though the demo wasn't clear if it can fire a LEGO projectile or not.

If you are interested in these, you can order the book for US$24.95 at NoStarch.com. The printed book will be shipping on the 21st of May and even Amazon is now taking pre-orders. If you order from NoStarch.com, you get minifig-scale guns such as the AK, Shotgun and the Lee Enfield but you need to hurry as this is dependent on supplies.

Too bad I don't have the patience to put LEGO bricks together, though I believe it's a healthy thing to do so, helping you maintain a sharp mind. If you are patient enough, then better get the book. Better design some slings or holsters for these and prepare for the LEGO Wars.

I wonder if someone already built a vest made of LEGOs too. It would be great if your tactical gear is all LEGO to go with your LEGO heavy weapons.
