CMMG Firearms unveiled a new offering in the modern carbine market with the introduction of the Br4 Dissent, a unique semi-automatic rifle designed with specific goals in mind.
At first glance, the Br4 Dissent might appear to be just another AR-style carbine. However, a closer look reveals a series of innovative features that set it apart. The most striking difference is the left-hand, side-mounted charging handle, a departure from the traditional AR layout. Additionally, the Br4 Dissent ditches the familiar buffer tube and pistol grip in favor of a Magpul Remington 870 SGA shoulder stock, offering a fresh take on carbine design.
The Br4 Dissent was created with a clear objective: to provide a feature-rich, modern carbine that adheres to firearm regulations in restrictive states. This "ban-resistant" design retains several popular features, including an M-Lok compatible forend and a flattop upper receiver for easy mounting of optics. Furthermore, the Br4 Dissent feeds from the ever-popular AR-15-pattern magazines, ensuring readily available ammunition.
The design of the Br4 Dissent merges traditional ergonomics with modern functionality. By utilizing a Remington 870 compatible stock system, CMMG ensures compliance in states with stricter regulations. The rifle ships with a Magpul SGA stock and features a reversible cross-bolt safety for easy access with the new stock design. Contributing to the smooth operation is the Br4's ZEROED drop-in trigger, a collaboration between CMMG and RISE Armament. This innovative trigger system is made possible by the DISSENT's patented Compact Action, which eliminates the need for a traditional buffer and tube.

The heart of the Br4 Dissent lies in its lower receiver, which seamlessly accepts readily available Remington 870 stocks. The standard Magpul SGA 870 stock can be swapped out for a different option if desired. The lower receiver features a streamlined design with a shorter magazine well, yet it retains compatibility with standard AR magazines. Unlike a typical AR, the Br4 employs a user-friendly cross-bolt safety similar to a Remington 870, with reversible functionality for both left and right-handed shooters. The lower receiver also incorporates an oversized bolt catch and an ambidextrous magazine catch for added convenience.
For maximum versatility, the Br4 Dissent's lower receiver is fully compatible with all CMMG Mk4 compatible DISSENT upper groups. It is available in two barrel lengths depending on the chosen caliber: a 16.1-inch option with a muzzle brake, or a 14.5-inch barrel with a pinned and welded muzzle brake to meet the 16.1-inch overall length requirement. This flexibility allows users to select the configuration that best suits their needs.

The upper receiver of the Br4 Dissent features a sleek design without a forward assist, but it includes a brass deflector and a reversible non-reciprocating charging handle. A full-length M-LOK handguard comes standard, providing ample space for the attachment of lights, lasers, grips, and other accessories, allowing for extensive customization.
CMMG will be offering the Br4 Dissent with different Cerakote finishes for customization. Customers can choose from classic options like Armor Black and Sniper Grey or go for a more tactical look with Charcoal Green or Coyote Tan. Stand out with unique finishes like Midnight Bronze or Titanium. Not only will there seven color options but also seven calibers, catering to a wide range of shooting disciplines. These calibers include 5.56 NATO, 300 Blackout, 9mm (using conversion magazines), 350 Legend, 6.5 Grendel, 6mm ARC, and 22 ARC. CMMG plans to introduce even more calibers in the future, further expanding the versatility of the DISSENT platform.

“With the AR platform under constant attack, we knew there would be a time that we’d need a to do something for people to have a capable rifle behind the enemy lines of more restrictive states and municipalities. With this in mind, we started looking into designs for this many years ago. The introduction of our compact action in our DISSENT lineup made this possible since we no longer must stay within the confines of a buffer tube operated system. We hope the Br4 allows many doors to be opened for people that have had that door closed on them.” Says Chris Reinkemeyer, CMMG CEO.
The MSRP for the Br4 Dissent is set at $1899.95, which includes two 10-round magazines. This price reflects the advanced features and innovative design that CMMG has incorporated into this new carbine. The Br4 Dissent makes a compelling option for shooters in restrictive states seeking a feature-rich, adaptable firearm that blends traditional comfort with modern performance.
