In recent years, the NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) are taking the imaginations of those looking for another big opportunity to monetize the digital realm. Whilst many are skeptical, an increasing number of netizens are looking into NFTs as the next big thing, especially with the big tech companies looking into the Metaverse as the new digital frontier.

NFTs are digital assets that represent real world items that include arts, designs, music, videos and even in-game items. These are non-interchangeable data stored on a blockchain which is a digital ledger that records transactions and they can be traded or sold. In order to buy an NFT, buyers use cryptocurrency like Bitcoin.

For firearms, Digital Arms was setup for the purposes of monetizing firearms NFTs and has already gotten on board some of the recognizable names in the firearms industries such as Barrett Firearms, CMMG, Primary Arms, and just recently ZEV Technologies. Will it catch on given that purchasing an NFT is more of purchasing a certificate of authenticity to a digital product rather than being an actual owner of the NFT since the legal rights can still be uncertain? The original NFT owner can keep on creating more NFTs based of the design.

There is still a lot of confusion about NFTs and sometimes they get accused as Ponzi schemes and for the meantime, it is more speculative and can be potential platform for money laundering. Even Keanu Reeves, who is a “relatable geek” is skeptical about NFTs even if he owns some crypto:

I won’t be surprised if someone in airsoft, after reading this, might want to take a chance at creating a digital marketplace for NFTs. It might be tough since there will be an overlap with the firearms industry in terms of the digital designs and the firearms brands will prevail as they have the intellectual property.
