The wait for The Division 3, the third person online-only action role-playing video game, will continue but Ubisoft will soon be releasing The Division Heartland. First announced in May 2021, fans of the game are expecting it to be available in 2024 though some are counting on a late 2023 release.

The Division Heartland differs from the first main The Division titles as players will be in a rural America environment rather the dystopian cities. It is a free to play game so players will just download the game without the need to ordering the software and revenues are through microtransactions which players of free to play online multiplayer games should be familiar with.

It has been in closed testing for over a year now but Ubisoft is still proceeding which this testing, perhaps just to make things smoother for players when it is finally released. The company is directing interested players to register for access for the next batch of tests.
In the trailer, the player is seen as aiding Mackenzie Reed, an agent from Boston who is in search of a former boss who went rogue, murdering the team he commanded.

The game is a survival shooter game with the player taking the role of The Division Agent who is assigned to Silver Creek, a small rural place and secure the town from rogue agents and the virus that is ravaging America. The player will then be completing missions and retrieving loot and weapons. There is a day and night cycle and when it gets dark, the action gets more intense as enemy players will be encountered.

In the deep dive video, the developers at Ubisoft discuss some early details on gameplay, classes, playstyles and other game mechanics, and an overview of what players can expect from The Division® Heartland in its upcoming test phases.

More updates are expected in Summer 2023. When released, The Division Heartland will be playable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
