19 Nov 2025
The airsoft world continues to vibrate with excitement following the conclusion of the Tokyo Marui Festival 2025, an event that delivered a monumental announcement. The centerpiece of the buzz is the unveiling of the EVOLT series, a completely new generation of Automatic Electric Guns (AEGs). This revelation is especially significant as it marks almost two decades since the company launched its groundbreaking New Generation Recoil Shock (NGRS) series, which itself fundamentally altered the airsoft landscape with its realistic operation and mechanical recoil. The long silence between major technological leaps has amplified the airsoft community's anticipation, leading to widespread speculation on what this "new generation" truly entails. The core question on every enthusiast’s mind is whether EVOLT can achieve the same legendary status as the original first-generation AEGs that pioneered the sport, or the NGRS line that defined modern realism.
This new series carries the immense pressure of following in the footsteps of truly revolutionary predecessors. The original Tokyo Marui AEGs established the foundational mechanics of electric airsoft, while the NGRS line—with its signature blowback and bolt-stop functionality—raised the bar for immersion and replica realism. Given this history, the EVOLT series is expected to introduce a breakthrough technological leap in terms of performance, features, and user experience. Whether it's through innovative power systems, advanced smart features, or entirely new mechanical designs, the industry is poised for a significant shake-up. The sheer length of time since the last major generational update suggests that Marui is confident in the technology they are preparing to unleash upon the market.
Fortunately for eager fans, the wait is nearing its end. The very first model in the highly anticipated EVOLT series is slated for release this winter, perfectly timing its debut with the peak holiday shopping season. While initial information has already circulated, Tokyo Marui has now provided additional complementary details, allowing enthusiasts to make a more informed decision. These new specifics will be crucial for determining if the EVOLT series deserves the coveted top spot on Christmas airsoft wish lists. We urge the community to review the provided details below and decide if the era of the New Generation Recoil Shock is finally giving way to a new evolutionary standard set by the EVOLT.
The EVOLT: M4A1 Carbine – A New Era of Internals

First up is the pioneer: the Automatic Electric Gun EVOLT “M4A1 Carbine.” Get ready for this: it's hitting shelves this winter with a hefty price tag of ¥90,000 (before tax). That's not pocket change, folks! But Marui believes the technology warrants the investment.

Core Tech: The 'M-SYSTEM Type II' and the Split Mech Box
The headline feature is the dedicated, newly designed mech box that incorporates the M-SYSTEM Type II. Remember the M-SYSTEM in the next-gen MP5? This is the optimized, M4-specific evolution.
Split Mech Box: It literally splits into a cylinder assembly and a gearbox! This finally allows for a realistic takedown—meaning we can now satisfy those urges to disassemble our replica without scattering tiny gears across the floor. Better yet, this opens the door for swappable upper and lower sets (sold separately, of course, because Marui knows how to upsell).

The Brain: An MCU (microcontroller unit) acts as the digital overlord, monitoring and controlling the FET, battery, and motor. It's essentially the airsoft equivalent of a tiny, vigilant air traffic controller, managing operation and immediately detecting anomalies.
Internal Overhaul: Gears and Glide
Marui’s engineers clearly went back to the drawing board for durability and smoothness:
MIM Gears: The bevel, spur, and sector gears now use MIM (metal injection molding) instead of traditional sintering. Combined with a new 4.0 mm shaft diameter, this promises improved durability, smoother rotation, and "excellent quietness." Shhh... don't wake the neighbours with your high-speed setup.
Low-Friction Cylinder: A small-bore cylinder with a low-friction fluorine lubrication plating. It’s a minimalist design—because apparently, internal volume is for amateurs.
Stabilizer Nozzle: The chamber features a new "stabilizer nozzle" designed to hold the nozzle position perfectly, which Marui claims will improve hit-on-target accuracy.
Power & Grip
New Motor: It gets an EG1000BR motor (that’s the bearing-equipped, reverse type) nestled in a grip that allows the angle to be adjusted.
The Catch: This first model is a shockless version (no recoil engine). The battery lives in the buffer tube area and must be the new Ms·Li-Po Battery [Stick Type]. Warning: Due to a proprietary safety design, no other battery will work. Yes, you’re locked into the Marui Li-Po ecosystem. We can hear the groans already.

External Realism: Takedowns and Threads
Marui went full-on obsessive with the exterior, basing it on measurements of a real, inert M4.
Real-Scale: Upper/lower receivers, handguard, charging handle, pins, grip, buffer tube, and stock are all faithful to scale. The lower receiver even has a real-scale internal width!
Hybrid Threads: The barrel nut threads are a clever hybrid supporting both inch and metric standards, though the lower receiver and buffer tube stick to inch standards. Because why make it easy for the aftermarket?
Barrel Swapping: The 14.5-inch barrel can be swapped to an 11.5-inch configuration with the included extension.
Operational Authenticity: You get the full theatrics: charging-handle cocking, a functioning bolt-open on empty, magazine change, and bolt-catch operation. The ambidextrous selector is directly linked via a shaft for a smooth, satisfying click every time.

The EVOLT Magazine: Marui’s Quirks Continue
If you thought you could use your existing M4 mags, think again. The EVOLT uses an exclusive, steel-pressed 81-round magazine and is not compatible with conventional M4 magazines.
One-by-One Loading System: A shutter inside the magazine closes after each BB is delivered to the chamber, preventing the string of BBs from being pushed into the gun body until the next shot. An elaborate solution to a problem most people just ignore, but hey, it's Marui!
Inner Elevation System: A tiny bit of spring tension keeps the magazine catch pressed against the feed port, reducing those frustrating feeding failures.

EVOLT RS: FPR Mk IV — Recoil is Back In The EVOLT Series
If you want your airsoft experience with a satisfying thwack, hold out for the EVOLT RS (Recoil Shock) model, the FPR (Federal Patrol Rifle) Mk IV which will follow after the EVOLT M4A1 Carbone.
Specs: It shares the M4A1's core specs, but adds a recoil weight system inside the buffer tube for that powerful, realistic recoil synchronized with each shot.
Battery Relocation: The battery is tucked away in the crane stock (and still requires the proprietary Ms·Li-Po).
Appearance: This model features an aggressive 10-inch aluminum railed handguard and an 11.5-inch barrel.
Price and Release: Expect to pay a cool ¥120,000 for the recoil pleasure. It will follow the M4A1 launch by a few months.

MP5K Plus: The Submachine Gun Gets a Brain

For fans of the classic sub-gun, the smallest of the Plus series has arrived: the MP5K Plus. This one is mercifully compatible with both Ms·Li-Po and NiMH batteries.
PLUS System Benefits:
- Improved semi-auto trigger response (say goodbye to slow semi-auto!).
- Automatic shutdown if motor or battery abnormalities are detected.
- Comprehensive battery checks and cutoff functions, including an automatic cutoff if you leave the battery connected. (A feature for the perpetually forgetful airsofter.)
- New Magazine: Includes a 41-round magazine with a new follower design that ensures the last BB is fired reliably.

Bonus: M1851 Navy Silver Air Revolver

Finally, a bit of cowboy flair. For the younger—or just less tactical—shooter, a Silver Model of the Air Revolver Pro “M1851 NAVY” is on its way, suitable for ages 10 and up. It boasts a silver urethane coating, plated metal fittings, and an elegant ivory grip with a pearl coating.

So, is the EVOLT a game-changer? With its split mech box, advanced electronics, and obsessive external detail, it certainly looks like the next evolution. But the proprietary battery, exclusive magazines, and premium pricing mean only time will tell if the community embraces Marui’s next giant leap forward.
