One of the best action movies directed by John Woo, known for his over the top action scenes, is said to be finally having a face lift. A new Face/Off, which featured Nicholas Cage and John Travolta is in the works as Paramount Pictures will be having 22 Jump Street screenwriter Oren Uziel to start doing the writing for a reboot of the movie according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Released in 1997, Face/Off is one of the biggest commercial successes of that year for Hollywood, and it was also the first time John Woo was given major creative control of a Hollywood film. Produced with a budget of US$80 million, it made US$245.7 million at the box office worldwide and earned a cult following.

John Travolta plays an FBI agent, Sean Archer bent on capturing a notorious terrorist, Castor Troy, played by Nicholas Cage. In a wild chase near the beginning of the movie, Castor Troy got severely injured when his plane crashes and was placed in a coma. While at the hospital, Archer had his face replace with that of Troy’s in order to go undercover to take down his terrorist network. Troy eventually awakens from his coma, finding that his face was gone, but eventually forced the surgeon to transplant Archer’s face on him.

This led to a reversal of roles in which Troy took over the tasks of Archer at the FBI and home. Archer, wearing Troy’s face, now became the hunted.

Neal Moritz of Fast and Furious will produce for Paramount, with David Permut serving as executive producer.  Not much details have been revealed yet, such as release date, etc. It is not known if John Travolta and Nicholas Cage will be involved in the movie.

In the airsoft world, probably the person who would be happy with this news, if confirmed, will be the Airsoft Surgeon. He made a custom GBB pistol of Castor Troy’s handgun based on the original Face/Off movie., Airsoft Surgeon Face Off V12 GBB Pistol. This pistol may not come back for the reboot but he would be happy to make a Face/Off airsoft gun based on the reboot.
