Is A FN SCAR SC Gas Blowback Subcompact Coming In This Year?

Amongst the non-AR or non-AK airsoft rifles that I have used over the use, I could say my favourite is the FN SCAR series. The first airsoft offering was offered by JLS in 2007 but it was Classic Army that brought out a great performing SCAR-L AEG right after followed by VFC showing faithfully replicated versions of the SCAR-L and SCAR-H. Tokyo Marui came in late with its FN SCAR series but offered the Next Gen version with the recoil and blowback features. DBoys also produced its low cost offering and WE Airsoft made the first gas blowback version.
Of all these offerings, the best performers in my experience, in terms of build quality and use in the field, are the Classic Army and Tokyo Marui versions. They performed magnificently right out of the box.
But over the past two years, I wondered if someone would make the PDW/subcompact version of the SCAR series, the FN SCAR SC (Subcompact). First announced in 2017 at the Milipol event in Paris, it is aimed at counter-terrorism and vehicle operations. It was high time that FN Herstal released a subcompact version given that Heckler & Koch got their HK416C and the AR, of course has subcompacts and pistolised versions over the years. The HK416C and the compact or AR Pistols are also available in the airsoft market. Cybergun is said to be working on the airsoft version as spotted at the IWA Outdoor Classics 2019 though we have no information on company appointed to be the OEM for this version. So far, no further information has been released on their efforts.
It looks like this the FN SCAR SC airsoft version will be realised this year. If not this year, early next year.
Taiwan-based Renegade-Tech announced that they will be releasing the FN SCAR SC Gas Blowback Subcompact as on their Facebook page. If you are not familiar with Renegade-Tech, the brand makes CNC’d parts and accessories for airsoft guns, especially those made by Taiwan airsoft companies such as VFC, GHK, WE Airsoft, and KWA. It looks like this is its first venture in making a complete airsoft gun.
There is a good number of smaller, boutique-style airsoft manufacturing operations in Taiwan, and a good number of innovations are happening in these shops and some are daring to break out from being parts and accessories makers to offer complete airsoft guns.
Not much detail yet has been revealed by Renegade-Tech on the GBB system they are using for the SCAR SC. It is possible that it is based on the WE SCAR GBB tech or it can be an entirely new GBB system. As for licensing from Cybergun which holds the FNH airsoft licence, it is not confirmed yet if this will be a licensed one.
We were wishing for an AEG version, but we can settle for Gas Blowback replica of the FN SC. As for other details such as release date and pricing, we still await information. Stay tuned as we’ll post more information as they come in on News section in the following weeks. Below is an overview of the real deal SCAR SC as covered by Larry Vickers at the SHOT Show 2018.
