Geissele Automatics has been awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with a 10-year ordering period and a maximum ceiling of $29,263,029. The contract is for the procurement of a new sniper support weapon, designated marksman, rifle that leverages advances in ammunition and weapons technology to enhance the lethality, reliability, and performance of intermediate range sniper rifles during engagements ranging from 50 to 1,500 meters.

The contract also includes complete sustainment over the life cycle of the weapon system. This encompasses the provision of spare parts and vendor support, the introduction of new equipment, engineering services, as well as travel-related expenses. Fiscal 2023 procurement funds in the amount of $4,240,133 are being obligated at the time of award on the first delivery order.

This contract is a follow-on production contract that stems from a competitive prototype agreement. It is being awarded in accordance with 10 U.S. Code 4022(f). U.S. Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida are conducting the contracting activity.

The Geissele Mid-Range Gas Gun (MRGG) features the latest in weapon technology available exclusively from Geissele Automatics. This rifle is chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor and features a Geissele suppressor-ready flash hider mounted to an in-house produced 20” barrel. The barrel is cold hammer forged from CRMOV steel and chrome lined to assist with barrel life and accuracy. The barrel can be interchanged between 6.5 Creedmoor and 7.62×51 mm NATO at the user level.

The upper receiver of the MRGG is manufactured from aircraft-grade aluminum and is type 3 hard coat anodized. The ambidextrous charging handle allows it to be easily manipulated by both left and right-handed shooters. The design of the charging handle reduces exposure of gas to the shooter's face by assisting in sealing the gaps between the receiver and charging handle.

This design incorporates extended rails in the upper quadrants to mitigate carrier tilt and ensure smooth operation and feeding.

The Super Modular Rail of the MRGG is completely free floated and features full-length M-LOK compatible slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions as well as the upper and lower 45-degree quadrants. The rail is machined from aircraft-grade aluminum and is mil-type 3 hard coat anodized. The top rail features a full-length M1913 Picatinny interface that is precisely machined for flatness across its length, ensuring co-aligned optic systems are perfectly in line with each other.

The MRGG-S is equipped with a specially designed braided wire buffer spring. This unique design mitigates high-frequency vibrations in the spring, thereby extending its lifespan. Furthermore, the bolt catch on the MRGG has been enlarged and slightly oversized to facilitate easier operation from both sides. The upper and lower paddles allow a left-handed shooter to engage them with their index finger which simplifies operation of the weapon system.

The MRGG’s lower is meticulously crafted from aircraft-grade aluminum and finished with a type 3 hard coat anodize. It boasts a flared magwell for effortless magazine insertion and an oversized trigger guard for easy trigger operation, even when wearing gloves. The MRGG-S comes with a mil-spec diameter receiver extension and an adjustable stock for comb height and length of pull. It can be paired with any stock that is compatible with a mil-spec receiver extension, also known as a buffer tube.
