After delaying the release of “Halo Infinite” for August 2021 and will be on track for a holiday release, 343 Industries confirmed that won't have campaign co-op or Forge at launch. No specific release date has been announced yet.
In a video released last 20 August, Halo Infinite head of creative Joseph Staten said, "Unfortunately, as we focused the team for shutdown and really focused on a quality experience for launch, we made the really tough decision to delay shipping campaign co-op for launch. We also made the tough call to delay shipping Forge past launch as well."
According to Staten, they aim to have campaign coop included in Season 2 and Forge in Season 3. With a plan of launching a new season every three months, we expect the campaign coop to be ready three months right after the premiere of the game, “When we looked at these two experiences — campaign co-op and Forge, we made the determination [that] they’re just not ready. So we’re going to keep campaign co-op and Forge in the oven for a little bit longer. When they’re ready, we’re going to release them as part of our seasonal roadmap next year.”
For fans of the game, campaign coop is part of parcel of the game, which allows up to four players to play together through a main campaign. As for Forge, players are able to customise game modes including maps as well as put their roles. With the delay, a lot of fans will be disappointed; especially that Microsoft already delayed the release for a year.
Paul Tassi, senior contributor at Forbes.com, ran a poll amongst Halo fans and found that 58% want the game delayed again because of the lack of these modes upon launch, “34% of those said it should be delayed until co-op campaign is ready. 24% said it should be delayed until co-op campaign and Forge are ready.”
Apart from the single-player campaign mode, “Halo Infinite” will have a free-to-player mode. It will be playable on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
