Wondering what the photo is all about? It’s a custom airsoft gun called a Guitar SMG that uses an Marui Uzi as base gun by its owner, who was inspired by the BanG Dream anime series about all-female bands. This is one of the entries in Hyperdouraku’s custom airsoft gun contest that we always look forward to. When Japanese airsoft players do their custom projects, there’s no holding them back, they will always create something really interesting and sometimes some custom guns bordering on the absurd.
The 2021 edition of the contest is no exception.
The winners have been already been selected by the guru of airsoft gun tech design, Tanio Koba and sponsors of the contest who gave special prizes to some entries. Whilst all the selected designs are interesting, we made our own list of 10 interesting entries to the contest.
Entry No.204 "Roselia" By Not Takahashi
As already mentioned above, this entry is inspired by the BanG Dream! anime series (originally a Manga series) with the band “Roselia” as the specific group that its owner dedicated the design to. Some of the controls in the guitar control the gun so it’s not an easy project to do.
Entry No. 200 "Electric M93R Custom" By Shrimp Taro

This uses a Marui M93R as base gun with a custom designed compensator. A 20mm rail and 14mm CCW thread were also added. For the folding stock, it uses aluminium and carbon fibre 2.0T.
Entry No. 190 "Dutch Police Special Forces DSI Specification MCX" By Malmo Hawk
A custom version of the MCX Virtus SUR300 for the DSI. This uses the Laylax/SIG Air MCX Virtus (OEM VFC) with Suzutomo Co., Ltd. for 12inch SD handguard, and faithfully reproduced the GRAY color of SIG SAUER, applied CERAKOTE coating and unit engraving. The owner designed a 6.75 inch short barrel for .300 BLK bullets, which is a feature of the SUR300 kit, using 3D software and asked an overseas metalworking professional to make an aluminum barrel.
The suppressor is a Laylax HK Suppressor Real Long and the stock is a Magpul CTR. Handguard uses M-Lok rail with M-LOK AFG and M-LOK MVG. The the tactical light is Streamlight TLR-2 replica and the optics device is Laylax/SIG Sauer ROMEO5. Battery is stored in the PEQ box.
Entry No. 182 "GLOCK18c Carbine [model2021]" By Miyamachi
This uses a Marui Glock18c as base gun with an optic mount up front and uses a P90 compensator. The grip is modded version made for the KSC version and the stock body is made of walnut.
Entry No. 115 "G&G SSG-1 Thompson-Style Custom" By Sasugi
If only G&G released the SSG-1 in this designed, it might not have been called the "most hated airsoft gun", though of course we don't agree that it is the most hated airsoft gun since it was designed for Speedsoft and that is a segment of airsoft that has grown and here to stay. All the custom parts were made by the designer.
Entry No.226 "Sedgley OSS .38" By Leather Shoes
A unique design that uses the Crown Derringer as base gun, this is a Single-shot middle-fold cart type airsoft gun. It takes its inspiration from a weapon developed in the United States for the OSS in the Pacific theatre during World War II, it is a special gun that is hidden in the back of the hand and fired by hitting it and pointed in the direction of the target.
Entry No. 165 "Kar98k EBR" By Taro
The Kar98k brought into the 21st Century as an EBR in this airsoft custom gun. It uses an M-LOK aol with a Magpul Masada Sniper Stock and it features a QDS or Quick Detach System, allowing you to disassemble it quickly for transportation.
Entry No. 141 "Mini SMG By Kurdish Gunsmith"
The cutest custom AK-style airsoft SMG ever, period.
Entry No. 232 "870 Type" By Sonic Maru
An obviously very Japanese custom design if ever a Samurai warrior wants to use a shotgun instead of a Katana. Elegantly designed, it uses a Maruzen Shotgun CA870 as base gun.
Entry No. 176 "M24 Potato Smasher" By Wojtek TR
This is a unique 40mm Gas Grenade Shell launcher using a Model 1924 Stielhandgranate which is the German hand grenade in World War I and II as the launcher. The design was made using Fusion 360, and the printing was made using a 3D printer called ANYCUBIC MEGA-X. It's called the Potato Smasher because it looks like a potato smasher at first glance.
This is just our list of custom guns (and launcher) that we like from the contest. But if you want to take a look at the full list of entries to make your own list of favourites, then click here.
