The Hi-Capa, or the 2011 pistol (Double Stack 9mm 1911-style handgun)  is the most customised pistol designed in airsoft given the success of the Hi-Capa series from Tokyo Marui. If I want a new airsoft Hi-Capa in this decade, the Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy AOS is the design that I want it based on.

Just released last week, the The Hi-Capa I Want: The Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy AOS is an optic ready double stack 1911-style with its Agency Optic System (AOS) which you can mount your favourite microsight or pistol red dot on.

The 1911 DS Prodigy AOS is available in two sizes --- the 4.25” and the 5” and customers can opt for the standard AOS or the AOS with the Hex Dragonfly red dot for those who prefer it ready with a optic right out of the box. When purchased they come with 17+1 and 20+1 magazines or if a customer wants more capacity, they can opt for the 26+1 magazines.

The suppressor height sights allow for co-witness with the red dot and the pistol also has an under rail for mounting a weaponlight such as the Surefire X300U-A Weaponlight or a laser sight. The barrels are Forged Stainless Steel, Match Grade, Bull, 1:16 and the grips are made of polymer. With Cerakote being the preferred coating these days, the slide is forged carbon steel, black Cerakote which the lower frame also sports.

The Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy AOS is already available with an MSRP of US$1,499 for the standard one, and the AOS with the Hex Dragonfly red dot sight at $1,699. Customers can contact authorized dealers to find out if it is already in stock.

SPRINGFIELD ARMORY® LAUNCHES NEW DOUBLE-STACK PRODIGY™ 9MM 1911 DS

GENESEO, ILL. (09/01/22) – Springfield Armory® is proud to announce the launch of the Prodigy™ AOS 9mm pistol, the first offering in the new 1911 DS double-stack line of pistols. The Prodigy, available in both 5” and 4.25” variants, enhances the proven 1911 platform with double-stack capacity and a performance-driven feature set.

Optics-ready with raised fiber-optic front/u-notch rear sights as well as an ambidextrous safety and Picatinny rail, at the heart of the 9mm Prodigy pistol is the expertly engineered double-stack magazine. Mounted to the pistol’s forged steel receiver is a polymer grip module that offers capacities of 17+1 in a flush-fit magazine and 20+1 in an extended one, both included with the Prodigy. An optional 26-round magazine is also available.

The polymer grip module features a wraparound Adaptive Grip Texture treatment, made popular on the Hellcat® family of 9mm pistols. Matching up with this grip module and the forged steel receiver is a forged steel slide with forward serrations. Both it and the steel receiver feature a rugged black Cerakote® finish. Housed within the slide is a match-grade bushingless forged stainless steel bull barrel.

Configured for today’s most demanding applications, the Prodigy is ready to accept a wide range of optical sights. Developed in collaboration with Agency Arms, the Prodigy employs AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS. Machined from billet 17-4 stainless steel, the AOS plates come fitted with a rear sight and are designed specifically to preserve visible iron sights for an intuitive sight picture and instant target acquisition.

The pistol ships with a cover plate with rear sight as well as one optics-mounting plate designed for the HEX™ Dragonfly™ along with a variety of today’s most popular red dot optics. Additional plates designed to accept a wide range of today’s most popular optics are also available on the Springfield Armory Store.
