If you haven’t noticed, PUBG is now called PUBG: Battlegrounds. So that means it’s now officially called PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds: Battlegrounds? It does not seem to sound right, right? Though it is not the first time a product has a redundant word like the ATM Machine. Anyway, read on why it led to this not-exactly-new name.
A Battle Royale video game, PUBG: Battlegrounds is one of the best-selling, highest-grossing and most-played video games of all time with over 70 million copies sold and its mobile version, PUBG Mobile, has been downloaded over a billion times. I prefer calling it “Battlegrounds” since it is just easier to say it while most call it PUBG.
The holding company for PUBG: Battlegrounds, Krafton, justifies the rename with its plans to expand the PUBG universe according to PC Gamer and it is the first step in their plans. The PR representative from Krafton mentioned that there is an upcoming title called PUBG: New State which is a futuristic mobile game set in 2051.
Not only that, another game from PUBG universe is being developed by the creators of Dead Space. Called The Callisto Protocol it is set 300 years into the future after PUBG: Battlegrounds and it is a survival horror game.
For the meantime PUBG: Battlegrounds will be free to play for a week as part of its promotion collaboration with the K-Pop super group, Black Pink and according to IGN, they are testing to if they will make it free-to-play permanently.
So happy with the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds: Battlegrounds?
