Two things usually don’t come together --- high capacity and micro-compact. But sometimes they do as Springfield Armory proves it can be done with the release of their Hellcat Micro-Compact 9mm pistol. They were able to cram 11 rounds into the magazine up to 13 rounds with the extended magazine that can be used with a pistol that is so compact and ideal for concealed carry.
According to its product description, Springfield Armory designed the Hellcat for every day carry with Adaptive Grip Texture and high visibility sights. With new generation handguns now being ready to be equipped with micro sights such as the RMR, the Hellcat is also available in OSP configuration.
When purchased the package comes with 2 magazines, a patented 11-round mag with pinky extension and a 13-round extended mag with a flushplate included also.
The OSP configuration is ready for micro red dots such as the JP Enterprises JPoint and Shield RMSc. Even with this configuration, the pistol has a small footprint that can be done with a micro-compact pistol. Even with the OSP configuration, it can work easily with the Tactical Rack U-Dot rear sight tjay also is paired with high visibility tritium & luminescent front sight paired for faster and more accurate target acquisition.
The Adaptive Grip Texture features a pattern of staggered pyramid shapes with the taller pyramids having a flattened top to ensure comfort in the waistband and minimal wear on clothing whilst the shorter pyramids come to a point and be locked into the hand to assure a more firm grip.
For those looking for an EDC pistol, the Hellcat looks like a good candidate to have it included in the EDC pack. It can also be recommended for women shooters who prefer shooting with a micro-compacts due to their smaller frames. Will it follow the XDM pistol from Springfield Armory that got its own airsoft versions? If there is a demand for such micro-compacts, probably.
