360 videos and photos are slowly creeping into the timelines and albums of many social media users as well as for sports and outdoors people. 360 allows the capture of the immediate environment around you and you can tweak the view of the photo or video to show what you want people to see. The Chinese 360 camera company, Insta360, has become a leader in consumer 360 cameras as well as established a reputation in pro 360 camera production. Popular Airsoft uses the Insta360 One X and OptimusPrime loves it to bits.

Using this experience, Insta360 decided to offer a non-360 camera, but a handy camera nevertheless for everyday video capture --- the Insta360 Go, a tiny camera that has image stabilization.

But before you whip out your wallets and order this camera, you might want to know its limitations first. It is made for casual filming where you can take Full HD videos at a maximum of 30 seconds. That will be a disappointment for those who intend to do some vlogging. But for airsoft players it can be tolerable as the good bits of any gameplay usually last a few seconds but for those who cannot be bothered to push the record button on or off during the gameplay and prefer their fingers at the ready near the trigger, it is a problem.

For social media purposes, it is indeed a handy camera, small enough to fit in your pocket and or a woman’s purse that it can be carried for everyday use. It has stabilization with its “FlowState Stabilization” so you get smoother video capture. It also has timelapse, hyperlapse, slow motion, barrel roll, and auto editing. Other features is that it can be mounted anywhere and is water resistant.

If you think it is a competitor to Google Clips, it can be. The good thing is that is cheaper at US$200 than Google Clips which is priced at US$249.

We’re not sure if we can recommend this as an everyday camera when many nowadays own smartphones with amazing cameras or something that can replace the GoPro Hero, or the Sony Action Camera, or the new DJI OSMO Action Cam which are highly capable even if they are more expensive than the Insta360 Go.

But if you think it meets your needs, then go ahead, it might be the compact camera that you need for your social media pages.
