We’re getting to see some of our favorite games in the past being updated to exploit the better screen resolutions which should always result in a better playing experience. The good thing is that some of these games are in the list of top video games that airsoft players played.
Last weekend, Popular Airsoft featured the De_Dust 2 Counter-Strike map that got improved in rendering using the Unreal Engine. This was done with a combination of human skills and software but for this beloved video game, Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid, its Nintendo GameCube remake in 2004, it is done with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
We are encountering the mention or use of AI in our everyday lives these days. AI promises great potential at improving lives, but many are apprehensive that it can be a double-edged sword. If left unregulated, AI may just become destructive as well and can lead to the extinction of humans or that machines will soon come into their own an become the oppressors of humans. I am still ambivalent, but I am always optimistic that technology can always be good for something good.
Something good this time is the rendering for 4K of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes using AI. With the ERSGAN (Enhanced Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks), Reddit member tophergopher1 released this Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes 4K beta. This is full done with AI and not much human intervention such as that was the case of the De_Dust 2 map.
As a remake of the original game, The Twin Snakes features graphical improvements plus new cutscenes written and directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, and gameplay functions originally introduced in the sequel Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Voice overs of the game are done by an original English cast with American accents.
Since this is a beta release, bugs are expected and are being fixed. For those who want try this game, they better make sure that they are PC gamers as this is not compatible with the GameCube itself if they still have the console lying around. It will require a GameCube emulator for the PC of course a 4K screen to fully appreciate the remaster.
You can download the remaster via Google Drive or Mega Up. But make it quick the links might be pulled.
